Let's see what to expect????? First and foremost, a good time! We are very laid back group, some of us will arrive as early as the weekend before - Doug (as in canoe2) usually comes early and gets rained on so it doesn’t interfere with the M&G weekend! Most will arrive sometime Friday and we do reserve and pay for a M&G site which we all chip in to pay for, (Loop c Site 54) those who have an E-Z Up or tables, will bring them over to the site and we set up!
On Friday those who arrive early may kayak/canoe/hike or bike - there are no set activities throughout the weekend with the exception of the pot luck dinner on Saturday night - everyone brings something from appetizers to desserts to pass and we eat really well!!!!!
If you where interested in kayaking or canoeing and don’t have one, let me know and I’ll get you in touch with Tickner’s, the local rental company!
Here is a website if you want to venture out and see some sites: Old Forge New York in the Adirondacks | McCauley Mountain Ski | Water Park | Cruises | Lodging | Museums | Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boating, snowmobiling
Old Forge the town at the foot of the mountain (Nick's Lake is a non-motorized lake on the top of the mountain) is a small quaint town, with gift shops, supermarket (to some it may be equal to your corner store but to those who live here it is the ONLY store)....churches, pharmacy and many restaurants – if you wanted to go out for breakfast or lunch. Last year a lot of people hung back at the group site, talked and got to know the newcomers....
and tour and give tours of their trailers! After dinner on Saturday, we usually sit around the camp fire and have a few cocktails and chat some more.....Sunday morning, we breakdown the M&G site and some head home, while other stay another day or so!
I will have to take the time and make a list of the attendees and as time comes closer, make a list for the Pot Luck Dinner…..but we still have a few more months for that!
Weather here in the Adirondacks is very unpredictable….but in September the nights WILL be chilly…so be prepared and bring some warm clothes as well as summer clothes for the day time hours.
Leo and I will bring some firewood and a few other needed items……as we live the closest!!!! Like right here in town!
Hope this helps a little!!!!

I sure am looking forward to it. Heck, we just love to camp. We're off Friday the 29th and hope to do a one night stay at Fair Haven on our way to Fredonia for our grandson's 1st birthday party Saturday. Then we're off July 19-28 for Keuka State Park. We drag the old classic speed boat out for that vacation. And then there's Nick's Lake, which we are really looking forward to now that we have a Sunline with a furnace!
Gail makes a mean platter of deviled eggs and great potato salad if it helps. We're flexible.
Enjoy your day...
Frank

By the way, when I say "we're flexible" that is mentally, NOT physically...

Frank, from the list of your camping gear on your "Sunspot" thread, you might not only be flexible, but really popular as well !!

No problem Jon, we already have this figured out. Deviled eggs and potato salad. We're looking forward to it!

Time to think about food! I'll check with Sheri and post what she'll put together soon. Sorry, no Tortuga rum cake this year. First, 4 nights on the Sacandaga this weekend (hope there's some water left) then we can start thinking Nick's Lake, can't wait.

Okay, No rum cake but last minute travel gets me home from Aberdeen, Scotland Thursday two hours before I plan to leave for Old Forge. I'll think of something to bring that I can carry on board but Hagis is out. I don't do Hagis. They make scotch over there dont they? I spend the last night in Amsterdam so maybe something from The Netherlands like Chocolate maybe.

Hi Chuck, glad you can make it. So far there is no "official" thread so just jump in with whatever you'd like to make. If you read this thread you'll see some of us have already said what we'll bring. The event organizers are no doubt off camping and will post a thead on the pot luck in due time!

What's up in Scotland? Does this mean there will be more than one kilt wearer at Old forge?

Gail says we're bringing cupcakes this year. Anybody got any favorite cake flavors? May as well see what folks might be craving!
