Water Heater Woes!!

Due to my incompetence I have managed to crack my water heater tank by one of the fittings. Oddly enough good old FlexPaste plugged the hole and is working temporarily. Happy wife, happy life kind of thing.

But as there is some age on the entire system and it is balky at times I think I would like to replace the entire unit. It is a GC6AA-9E. Any idea where a guy might find a rebuilt or used one for sale?

Last option is to buy parts and a new tank and try to rebuild mine. I did rebuild my furnace a couple of years ago, but was hoping to not go through that with the water heater. Sigh.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated! Thanks!

Amazon has replacement water heater tank kits. When replacing hot water tank I suggest putting a drip pan under it.

Will go to Amazon and order one. Thank you. What did you use for a drip pan?

I made it out of zinc plated metal 24" x 30" found in duct work section and a hand break. Bent 3 sides up and one side down. The turned down edge folds down over outside edge of trailer to drain any leakage. Also put in drain pipe made out of 3/8 in. O.D. x 12 in. (Cut to about 6") Chrome Plated Copper Tube Toilet Supply Line with gasket removed, replaced with a piece of butyl tape and a small screw to hold down.PXL_20210721_193230132.jpgPXL_20210721_193702436.jpgPXL_20210721_190919691.jpgPXL_20210721_192847212.jpg

Double check you are getting the correct tank for your heater. They make many of them. PDF page 51 (manual page 40) has the Atwood tank kits per which model number. This is the 2007 Atwood service manual in our files section. The Atwood/Dometic tank kit part numbers are across the top.

On the drip pan, see here to add to some more of what Jim posted. He did the fancy corner folding, (nice job Jim! ) I caulked the corners.

Hope this helps

John
Good job on documenting. I usually do don't think of it till I'm done or close to it. It's hard for me to explain my directions into words.
