Refrigerator Roof Vent

Help....my Husband accidental took part of our Solaris 2004 T2753 refrigerator roof vent cover off with the branches of the tree when he was moving the trailer. It was brittle to begin with and must of had a crack in it because a branch got stuck in the corner and it tore of f pieces of it. Now we are looking into getting a replacement....does anyone have any ideas of what or where we can get one to fit this 2004 trailer. We don't want to spend a fortune and will a generic brand fit it.....??????

Thanks in advance
Arlene

In all likelihood yes you can.
I found a much cheaper version on Amazon for our 2001 Advancer.

Yeah, these do get pretty brittle over time, and break easily.

The exact replacement ones aren't available anymore, but there are some similar ones that should work. One is pretty curved, but I think it'll still fit on the base and the four holes should line up. Remove what's left of yours and take it in to match it up.

The four screw holes holding it on were probably filled in with Dicor sealant. You'll have to dig it out, but the nice thing is it leaves a nice clean screw to remove that isn't rusted away. I recommend getting some more Dicor sealant and filling these holes again, in case you need to do the job again.

This will fit your 2004. I have bought several that fit 2004 to 2006 Sunlines. After 10 years the originals are about brittle to dust if they lived outside all the time

https://www.amazon.com/Camco-42160-R...70_&dpSrc=srch

If the lower part if broke that is a different part. Let me know will hunt that up

Husband here; we got a new cover at the local trailer dealer for 39.95. Unfortunately, Arlene came with me, and we ended up getting another 250 worth of stuff, and a one inch thick catalogue of accessories for her to drool over.

I bought one as specified in JohnB's post and had it installed by an RV dealer in Gaylord.
Fit and works great.

John, are you saying that unit will work on my 2006, or is that one for the 2004? I’ve got stuff falling apart left and right.

My vent cap is in pretty good shape, I'm looking for the vent base, which is not offered at the noted Amazon link. John, did you ever find a base that fits the 5-1/2 x 23-3/4 cutout for a fridge model RM 2652? Thanks.

Go back to the link and you'll find 3-4 different vent bases. Measure the dimensions on yours and get the one that is closest to your size. There is one cap kit that I saw that is a complete kit and comes with base and cap.
Dometic 3311236.000 Cap and Base Vent Kit

Base only

Hi Everyone,

Since the last Sunlines made were 2007 models, Dometic stopped making the roof bases a few years ago and they are no longer offered. I ran into this a year ago repairing a 2005 and 2007 Sunline. Dometic does still make the roof cap to go on the older fridge vents, but does not make the bases.

They do now offer a brand new style roof cap and base that work together, but they will not interchange with the older style. You have to convert both. This link is for the all new style Dometic base and cap for a RM2652. Again, to use this you have to change both parts.

I actually bought 2 of those kits. And for me, I did not like the quality of them. I returned them to Amazon. They are not as thick or flat as the older Dometic bases.

I started converting campers that needed a roof replacement to using the Camco base and Camco top vent. The Camco base will work with the old Dometic top and the Camco top cover will work with the old Dometic base. Plus as of last year, both base and top cap where made in the USA and the quality, flatness and strength were much better.

This is the Camco top vent cover https://www.amazon.com/Camco-42160-R...70_&dpSrc=srch

This is he Camco base. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-42161-R...1761979&sr=8-1

If wanted or needed, I have some of these Camco base and covers now for my project campers I'm rebuilding. I also have pics, just not posted yet of the new Dometic kit next to the Camco if you want to see them.

Hope this helps

John

Tod,

The Camco 42160 cover will fit your original 2006 Sunline Dometic base.

The Camco 42161 base will fit your old Dometic cover and will fit their 42160 base.

I have used the same Camco cover on 2003 all the way to 2007 Sunlines without issue. I am sure they will fit older ones as well, I just do not know what model year in the 90's Dometic changed them from the really old old style to the now discontinued style.

Hi,

Not sure which model year camper you have. I know the RM 2652's would most likley use the Camco 42161 bases. Refrigerator Vent Base

Camco does not offer dimensions even on their website. But I have at least 2 of the 42161 bases I can measure to confirm. I will measure them and report back.

Hope this helps

John

John
Here are the confirming dimensions on the Camco 4261 vent base and the Dometic vent base. NOTE: Odds are high the old Dometic base and cover I measured have shrunk in size by approx 1/16" to I would say max 1/8", as it was close to 15 years old living outside all that time.

This is the Dometic vent base I removed from a project camper I was working on

The outside perimeter dimensions of that base are: 26 1/8" lg x 7 5/16" wide

The inside perimeter of that base is 24" lg x 5 1/2" wide. The roof cutout would be very close to that.

The Camco base PN 42161 has an outside perimeter flange of 26 3/16" lg x 7 3/8" wide

The inside perimeter of the Camco base is, 24 1/16" lg x 5 5/16" wide. This is what would align with the roof cutout. The roof cutout may be slightly smaller or larger.

The Dometic base 3106634.022 and the Camco base 42161 will interchange as far as the roof cut out and can accept each other brands top cover. The screw holes on the roof flange that mount the base to the roof are slightly different. This is not a problem, the flange covers all the old roof holes. You need to use butyl sealing tape on the roof flange to seal the flange to the roof. That sealing tape will seal over any old Dometic mounting flange holes.

Here are a few pics of the old Dometic next to a new Camco

The inside

The new Camco top vent cover on the old Dometic base

The new Camco base with the old Dometic cover on it.

The Camco top cover is longer, it has a wind deflection feature at the front. This normally does not create a problem unless your floor plan has a roof top TV antenna or something else directly in front of the fridge vent. Here is the old Dometic over the top of the new Camco cover. The Camco hangs out 5 3/4" longer.

If you need any other dimensions, let me know.

Hope this helps

John
