Hitch height ?
Hi I have purchased a Saturn T1550.(Hope to pick it up this Thursday ) I am hoping that someone can tell me how high the hitch ball has to be. My Toyota 4Runner suspension is higher than stock and I want to get the height right. Also just had my electric brake control installed. You won't find a happier TT owner

I think all the models my size (2363) and smaller have a Hitch ball height of 17 inches. My 08 4Runner, with a high suspension, needs a 5 1/2 inch drop.

Can you level the TT and measure the hitch, the part that goes over the ball, from hitch to the ground? You will then know the height the hitch ball has to be. When ready to roll both TT and TV (tow vehicle) should be level.

Have the seller measure it and call you with the results?

Hi Gene
The ball height on the smaller campers, h'mm do not know if the 17" is a hard fast rule.
Medbill had a T195SR that was 15 1/4" that was a shock.... http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...n-10338-2.html Now in this case these 195SR's may have been special due to the slide. So do not know for sure what guide lines drove the ball height.
Brian
What year is your Saturn T1550? Unless some one who has one can jump in and confirm, we may be able to find it on an old archive or catalog. I know in 2003 and 2004 Sunline actually put the ball height on the PDF's of the floor plan. Might get lucky and find one for your year.
I know the Saturn series is older just not sure how old. Sunline Fan may pop in here too with some older info.

Hi John,
The Saturn series, defined as small trailers 17' and under, was 1986-1989. Saturn series, defined as small trailers 22' and under, 1990-1994.
Saturn series (unlimited length- T-17A to T-36SSA), Entry Level style- 1996-1999
The 1550 was also available as an un-named model from 1983-1985. For 1995-1996 it was a Solaris model T-1550. Prior to it being the 1550 in 1983, it was the 15 1/2' SB, and the 15' SC before that was similar but a reversed floorplan.
There are no ball heights published for anything that old, that only started in the 2000s.
There was a 1550 on eBay recently in Pine Grove, PA- # 2131:
1987 SUNLINE SATURN T1550 TRAVEL TRAILER CAMPER 15' 16': eBay Motors (item 200530643910 end time Oct-19-10 10:00:16 PDT)

Hi Sunline fan. That is the very same one that I have purchased.I have not seen it in person yet but the owner seemed very nice. He has let me know that if it doesn't meet my satisfaction I wont be obligated in any way.I love the size.I was happy in a tiny tent so a tiny trailer was what I had my eye on. The current owner emphasized that the seats have some worn spots. The way I figured it is a few yards of new fabric should fix that.Wish I could purchase original fabric patterns for that model. A/c would have been nice.

Brian,
Nobody here likes to be a wet blanket, but you should ck. out that Water damage. It could be a much larger problem of rotted wood then you can see. You are paying a lot more than the NADA avg. retail value of App.$800. to $900. So It should be in better than Avg. cond. with NO rotted wood.
BTW..there are Threads here on replacing rotted wood. ( a lot of work) Ck. them out.
We all learn from our mistakes but they can be costly.
Sorry for this reply.. ...BUT I felt I just had to say something.

I am worried that the rot may be a problem.I have helped my brother on wood boat projects when I was a kid.
It is much easier to find a trailer over 20 feet at a bargain than a trailer that is under 2000 pounds in reasonable shape. This trailer was the first trailer I have seen in 3 months of solid looking that met my requirements for size and features and cost. Sounds funny because I am a large person, but I absolutely am a big fan of small and efficient spaces. My house is a tiny bungalow. I was fascinated by the fact that those houses were designed in part by yacht builders for elegance cost and efficiency. I work in Europe allot and they are just fanatical over their tiny caravans.
There are a few mentions on this forum about how the T1550s are sought after. Things are only worth what people are willing to pay. Hope I can make a good assessment.
Thank you so much for the warning

I agree 100%.... That's why I have a QUE ( 17 1/2') You can find a 2007 Que that listed for $25,000. in 2006 for about $10,000.or less now.
Or you can buy a new 2011 small trailer(of lesser quality & features) App. 15-18ft. for app. $10K.

That is one nice looking trailer!
I am going through a bucket list for my life now. So that makes me cash poor. $1900 was allot for me. My work is slow now and I may take a month off to tour the south west.3 of my hobbies are photography, gold prospecting and metal detecting and just plain old be outdoors doing anything.I have been to every mainland state except Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska and North Dakota.

Hi
Thank you.The damage area was a 2 ft x 2ft squishy area on the wall. Other than that the camper looked almost new inside! There was a few small wear marks on the top edge of one of the cushions. It blended so much he had to point it out.No odors.Floor was perfect, Panelling looked perfect.
I couldn't pass it up. I have looked so long and it matched my needs perfectly.
I drove there and picked it up. Camped in a Walmart parking lot. Had a catnap again in a New York state rest area. Avoided all the traffic bringing it home in the A.M. I am awake now and I want to just sit in it learning things like how the heck he turned the lights on Oh it also had levelling jacks and the Ebay add said it didn't!
