If you know Rollins, you know what to expect at Nick's Lake... Fish Creek is our place to spend about 25 days a year. My wife has now started her 58th year at FCP.

The heater strip on the fridge is a heat coil on the visible strip of door frame between the freezer and the fridge doors. Prevents condensation from building up in hot summer weather. The switch is some where on the door frame of the fridge. Mine is above the freezer door which you have to open to even see it. It's a little rocker switch.

If the laptop won't power up from the wall outlet, the outlet is probably dead. Find the circuit breakers and check to see if one of them is tripped. If the laptop won't work in the outlet, probably nothing will.

It is probably grossly inefficient to recharge trailer batteries from an idling vehicle in camp. It usually takes several hours of idle time on a car or truck to bring a battery back even part way as the voltage is usually down a bit at an idle. If the vehicle is running down the highway, the voltage is up and it will recharge in 20 minutes or so. The generators put out plenty to drive the convertor in the trailer which is designed to recharge the batteries quickly. And the generator uses less fuel plus gives you 110vac for a couple of hours to run things like the TV during the news hours (weather reports.. or to use the microwave to defrost something before dinner. I would not run out and buy a generator just for the M&G, but if you plan to stay in ADK campgrounds a lot, you may find one useful in time. And it's always good for power outages at home.

That stuck switch in the fridge is probably repairable - believe it or not, but parts are still available for most RV appliances in that age range.

I am going to be out of town from Saturday the 6th until Tuesday the 9th, but I thought it would still be a good time to get discussion started on meals.

Last year, we did a potluck dinner that turned out quite well. If memory serves, each couple brought their own meat plus a dish to pass, and I guess that'd be a good format for this year, too.

We'll start a list here of who is going to bring what and you all can volunteer up your favorite dish. Gail and I will hold off until we see what some of you plan to bring, and we'll fill in the blanks, so to speak.

Last year, we did a Sunday morning group breakfast that was mostly bring your own, although Tom & Mary's chocolate chip pancakes went quite a ways for several of us. (Boy, were they good!) Maybe we can start a list there, too.

Last year, some of us rode the Adirondack Scenic Railroad and others went for a canoe/kayak trip together on Saturday in the daytime. Still others prowled the Old Forge stores and shoppes. There are lots of things to see and do in the area.

If anyone wants plan something specific for Saturday daytime, I am sure that you'll find others who will want to join you. This is the place to talk about it. (Gail and I haven't talked about this ourselves, yet, so we'll put our heads together and see what we want to do.)

Those that come in early (on Thursday or earlier) sort of get together and do campfire in the evening, and then just hang out and talk Sunline on and off during the day on Friday. If memory serves, (Nana correct me on this!), we only have Site 54 for Friday and Saturday so I'll offer our site for Thursday evening campfire now. All group activities from Friday afternoon on will be at Site 54. Mike and I will get the shelter set up right after Kathy registers the site. Anyone that wants to join us for that is very welcome.

Suggested rough schedule for the weekend:

Fri Afternoon - set up M&G Site 54 and casual social. Watch the next couple come in and set-up their rigs (Lot's of "Ohhs!" and "Ahhs!")
Fri evening - social and campfire for the group
(Dinner on your own as folks will arrive at various times.)

Sat Dinner Cooking / Social 5:30pm
Sat Dinner 6pm or whenever the cooking gets done.
Sat Camp Fire to follow

Sun Breakfast 9am? (BYO)

One other thing, we did a nice group picture on Sunday morning last year, and I would like to do that again this year. So please remember that if you are packing up to leave on Sunday morning. Mike produced a beautiful DVD of the weekend and the group picture was very important for that.

I liked them!!!

Gail says she would rather not do a fancy cake again this year. We had a lot of trouble keeping all of the frosting colors from bleeding into each other due to the high humidity.

Gail is thinking maybe our special yummy raspberry brownies.

But we do have a bunch of special recipes for other things beside desserts, too.

Some things we found helpful from last year's M&G:

Nick's Lake SP Campground has no hookups so alternate sources of light at the M&G site were very valuable. I have one of those manifolds that fastens to a 20# propane tank and stands about 3' tall with a propane lantern on the top. Gives out a good bunch of light. If any of you have one of them, please bring it along. I have an extra propane lantern, but only the one "Power Stik."

We moved several picnic tables from our individual sites to the M&G site and that worked very well. We did find that having a table or two with no built-in seats was a good idea for the food buffet. Easier to reach and not so much in the way of other things. I have one 6'x30" folding table, but one more would be good.

Mike has a big shelter - at least 25'x25' - and that was just great last year. We had good weather for the whole weekend so nothing more was needed. Mike's shelter does not have sides, and if the weather turns rainy, we may need to improvise a bit to keep us all nice and dry. I have two or three 6'x12' tarps which would make great sides for the shelter, but we could use some additional tarps. I know most of you carry that sort of thing anyway, so we should be OK.

Folding chairs - obvious but...

Flashlights -again mostly obvious, but it is really dark in this campground at night.

Normally, Gail and I set up a bunch of stuff on our own campsite, but we found that it really wasn't necessary for us to do that as we spent most of our time over at the M&G site.

I have a Coleman two burner propane stove and one of those big RoadTrip ones as well plus all the hoses and manifolds to hook them up to a propane tank. Since it looks like we'll be cooking for at least 22 people, a couple more may be needed.

If the weather turns rainy, Mike and I have handy little shelters call "Fish Creek Lean-To's" which are ideal for keeping warm and dry at campfire.
http://fishcreekpond.com/leantoo.html Another of those would be nice if anyone has one, or the 10'x10' "ez-ups" that are so popular these days.

There is a lavatory/shower building in the center of the loop, and it is brand new as of a year or two ago. There is 110 vac there for hair dryers and such.

Canoes and Kayaks: Nick's Lake is paddle power only, plus there are some great rivers in the area for paddling about.

Bicycles: The campground is a bit hilly in places, but big enough for a decent bike tour.

Anybody else think of anything?

Site 47 had utilities last year. I know Sheri plans on maybe bringing that ratatui stuff but only she as a chef knows how to spell it. I'll update this posting over the weekend.

I'm Paul and I approve this message.

I'll have a couple of tables with me if needed:
a 24" x 48" folding table
and
a 26" x 48" roll-up table like Mike had last year (finally got one of those Mike )

We also have a 10' x 10' shelter that we'll bring along just in case we need it.

Have to check with the boss wrt what we'll be brining for the pot-luck dinner.

See everyone in a few weeks.

We've got a 24"x48" one, too. That should be plenty.

And we have a 10x10 ez-up, as well.
