converter situation
We have an American CS6000 converter in our T-2075. After 2 days camping and hooked up to parks 30 amp line, we heard a constant crackling noise and noticed the far left green led came on the converter. This led is labeled "over load" we turned off all 12v items that were on at the time, no change, disconnected battery, no change. We were packing up to leave so all is now disconnected. Any thoughts as to what caused this? Are we destined to buy a new converter at this point? There was no excessive heat or odor coming from converter at the time.

You may well be into a new convertor. What year is your camper? I also had a CS6000 and replaced it due to the fans driving me nuts.... I also learned there are no more parts avaible to repair it. However American does sell a new drop in replacment. Or they will sell you just the new convertor PC board section or at least they would 3 years ago. In my case In upgraded the entire unit to a Progressive Dynamics unit to have more features.
My Compter or their website seems to be down but I belive this is their site
http://www.americandirect.ibuilder.com/
If you call them they should be able to help.
I'm assuming this is what yours looks like? Yes/No?
The convetor board looks like this and the new one should replace this and has the new fans as well
Hope this helps
John
PS I'll check on that American link on Tuesday if I had it right

Hi Bob
H'mm a 05 model, well is yours a CS6000XL? in place of the CS6000?
This pic if from my prior 2004 T2499 which was made in May 2004 and it had the newer CS6000XL Fans in the front
My 2004 T310SR, made in Oct 2003 had the older CS6000 No XL upgrade.
I still can't get that American site to fire. Don;t know what is up.
However this place sells the entire newest vintage convertor. They may be abel to get just the power converter and not the entire case etc. for youi older unit
American CS6000XL 60 Amp Converter Power Center
Hope this helps
John

Cs6000
Hello i have the same supply as johnb cs6000 green board with the four 200 volt 820uf filter caps that i am trying to fix for a friend . the output transistors blew taking out a few parts that i need to identify because they are burnt beond id. if anyone can help that would be great i need the values or colors of R31,R32,i think they are 1.1 brown brown gold gold but cant really tell and "R37 near Q3 surface mount resistor, number on resistor would help" thanks alot or even take a hi res shot near the output transistors thanks again

Replaced the cs6000 with the new cs6000xl, $205.00 incl. shipping. Had a pro install for $100.00. Works perfect, good decision.

Hi key79
Did you get the resistor values you needed? I can go look if you need to.
A question in my mind is what caused it to blow out like that?
John

Hi JohnB
I think i got the values correcet but if you have the board handy and an ohm meter that would be great. The transistors are in the mail as we speak. I am to beleive that R31 and R32 is 1.1 ohm, Brown Brown Gold Gold, and R37 surface mount resistor is 2.7K it will say 272 on the resistor if correct. This one was blown away. So i am judging with my experience with output transistors that i have the values correct but its always nice to be sure..
I am not sure what cause it to blow. I am fixing this for a friend. I was just handed the board to look at. But i think changing the glass fuse to many times from a short in the transistors was the culp. He is using a temp supply at the moment and everything works fine.
Thanks Kevin

hey just a note - every part in those converters (and just about every other one) are still available today.
I got good suppliers I use to restore my vintage stereos....with todays tech and prices I can usually double the power handling of any trannys and the WV of the caps in a smaller footprint.
If anyone is desiring to throw one away - contact me, Ill take it! I recycle! (or reuse)
