Bearings and seals

Hi all, I’m planning our first trip with the trailer this coming October and I’m working hard to get road ready. I’d like to repack the bearings and replace the seals before our 300 mile trip. Does anybody know what part numbers I’d need for the seals (and bearings if necessary) on a 1978 T-1750?

Hi,

Your 78 camper, if it still has the original axles on it, were Kelsey Hayes axles. I am not sure on the exact size bearings and seals are on that older camper. But, they should sell rebuild kits that have the bearings and seals to more than likely fit it. Or individual parts. These bearing hubs are not really special. If you have a local NAPA auto parts store and the folks at the counter have been around long enough, they should be able to match up the old seals and bearings if needed. Take the old parts with you.

We have a good number of folks now with the older later 70's and 80's camper that may have been through the axle hub repack and can point you to a more for sure known size. Hoping they jump in to respond.

When you do find parts that fit, please post what you found and where for folks coming behind you in the future.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks John, I will do that. It does have the Kelsey Hayes axles. I can still see the tag on one of them. We have a local Napa, the problem is the old guys who know how to use a book are all dying or retiring, the new kids working there can’t handle life if they can’t look up the part by year/make/model on their computer. If no one responds with pertinent info here, I’ll take my chances with the millennials behind the parts counter. [emoji43]*[emoji94]

Sad, the raw skill of a good counter person who knows their inventory is becoming extinct... Those guys or gals are what makes that store great!

By chance do you know if your brakes are 10" drum ID (the brake shoe riding surface) x 2 1/4" wide shoes?

Is so, that "might" be an industry standard no 84 spindle.

See this link to post no 5, https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...tml#post157727

In this case it was for Dexter parts, but the spindle is an size 84 and can go across brands. Read down to post no. 13 where I posted the NAPA current seals and bearings part numbers.

Good luck and hope it helps

John

PS, if you have a pair of calipers, I can help try to back into the seal if you know the brake drum hub bore for the seal and the shaft OD that runs on the seal.
