Hi pappy,

Welcome! and congrats on your new Sunny!

The VIN you posted might have a digit mixed up; I can't tell exactly which one per se. Have a look again and see if there is a typo.

I can help with this if certain parts of the VIN are correct. First, the model number is not part of the VIN, but there are ways to back into that.

The 10th digit, counting from the left, is the model year, and yours shows an A in that location, which means the year 1980 and the first year the new 17-digit VINs came to be. The model year may differ from the manufacturing year as the model year started in mid-1979 and went to mid-1980; it could have been made in either year.

Again, if the VIN is correct, the camper is 16 to 17 feet long, as measured from the tow ball coupler to the rear bumper. The camper has two axles.

If you post pictures showing all four outside walls, we can help back into a floor plan, which helps in the model number. You may be able to back into the model number by looking at our 1980 sales brochure and matching up the floor plan to the model number.

Try this: in our FILES section we have almost all the sales brochures and the floor plans of the time are in those brochures. To get to our files section, be logged in and look at the top of the forum for the words FILES; the word is a tab, and you click it, and it takes you into the files section. Then look for the folder, Brochures, scroll to the year 1980, and download a copy.

If you want to post pictures, see here:

There are three ways to add pics.

1. Upload pics to a specific post, attaching them at the end of the post.

2. Link them in from a publicly viewable web photo hosting service you have.

See here for 1 and 2 https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post86041

3. You can upload pics to the forum in your own personal photo album. Then, link them to anywhere in the text of a post. See here for how to create an album. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post87945

If you still get stuck, let us know. Pic go a long way in helping show things you are working on, and we like seeing Sunline pics!

Hope this helps

John

Hi Pappy,

The VIN looks like it's probably for a 1980 Sunline 17-1/2' SB. But, like John said, something isn't right in the VIN. There's actually a calculation behind a VIN, and that doesn't add up correctly. Changing just one digit could change what model we're looking at.

My gut is telling me the issue is either with the last three digits, or with the X digit. Can you verify if the last four are actually 5144? Sometimes the swoopy font they stamped with can make ones look like fours.

Also, on that era of Sunline, there would have been a piece of paper glued inside one of the cabinets (likely the biggest one) on the back wall. Do you have a picture of that and does it list a four digit serial number?
