Using a Residential Type HW Heater?
I was walking around in Lowes the other day, looking to see what I might be able to use as I fix up my 1981 15.5 SB. (What does "SB" stand for any way?) I came across a 12 gallon, electric (120 v.) water heater, just like what you'd see in a house, but smaller.
I have a 6 gallon Atwood propane only HW heater that uses a pilot light. I think it was new in 2005. I don't know if it works, but I'm guessing it probably does (or will with some minor tweaking). It looks like it's in pretty good shape.
I'm going to be living in my trailer for a couple of years, almost exclusively at places where I will have full hook ups. It'll just be me, and I'll need hot water solely for washing dishes and taking showers.
Are there any good reasons NOT to install a 12 gallon, electric residential type water heater in my trailer? Twelve gallons might be a bit more than I need. I'm thinking more in terms of having to have a pilot light constantly lit. Could it pose a danger when I'm gone? Will it use a lot of propane? Remember, I'll be living full time in the trailer.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
Jay
