LPG tank cover mod

We've been fighting with the LPG cover, every time we hitch-up. It's right above the snap up brackets and made snapping them up a real pain. While I was checking and cleaning the battery posts, Kitty got busy with the Dremel tool. She cut out the corners and made it really easy, to snap the brackets up now...

Yes that tank cover is right in the way...... Ours was cut the day I put the hitch on. Which I did on the dealers lot before I hauled it off into the sunset...

I also see 2 other things.

The prior owner had a friction bar setup on a TT that long.... So did ours. Can see the 6 holes for self taping screws still in the frame. 4 of the 6 on mine the heads popped right off with about 15 ft # of torque (nothing) when I went to take it off. They where really holding a lot... I'm sure the dealer sold them on that. A friction sway bar on 32 to 34 feet is not a good application of that device. I'm glad Kitty insisted on her DC.

The 2nd thing, your tongue weight is in the range where in some turns the snap up bracket can spread open up top. Reese has no issues having them bolted on and they even claim on some heavy tongues the top C shape has sprung open in turns where the load can rise quite high.

Carriage bolts fit perfect in those 2 square punched holes to bolt them on.

Your LP cover, are the latches rusting yet? Mine are big time and staining the cover. Rotary bushed them about 3 weeks ago and repainted them to slow down the corrosion. I wish we could buy stainless for that location. That latch is unique.

John

Yes, I would like to find a replacement latch for the rusty cover latches. I, too, tried cleaning and painting them but it is a very temporary measure.

Would these stainless latches work?

I need to take a better look at what's on our cover, but it's a thought...

HMM, they look great! Have to measure the ones that are on the Sunline. I hope they work, what a relief it will be not to see those rust streaks down the front of the cover!

I painted mine with a silver paint marker probably five years ago now and haven't had a problem since.

Bob, I painted mine white after wire burshing it to death and it has slowed it down but it is still bleeding thru. Have not yet made it to buying the stainless ones. That will end it, period.
