Infernal trailer rocking

The only frustration that I have with camping...it is a personal thing....Trailer Rocking. I have too sons, one that is bigger than me now. When they move around inside the camper or move around while sleeping (they both sleep in the slideout area), the trailer rocks back and forth. I have no problem at all with front and back due to good metal wheel locks and I use scissor jacks on all 4 corners on large blocks. I have seen a few different solutions sold on the internet. I was wondering if anyone has something that REALLY works for them?

Hi Gary,

Welcome!

I haven't found a good solution to this either. And believe me, sleeping in the slide out is even worse...

The one thing I've heard that's NOT a good idea is slide out jacks. I guess they can bend the slide frame/mechanism.

I added another set of scissor jacks just in front of the wheels. It doesn't stop all the movement, but it is a huge difference.

We did the same as 264SRinPA and added stabilizer jacks in front of the wheels. As was said it does not eliminate the movement 100% but it has definitely cut down on it. Here is a picture of the midship stabilizers:

Now besides this solution I know of other people who have added JT Strong Rrms to their trailer and they have reported great success with them. Here is the link to the JT Strong Arms[/url]

Camping World sells a jack for about $50 that locks the two wheels together. Using just one of those stopped the rocking completely by not allowing the wheels to rotate at all.

Hi Gary

I have wood wheel chocks that force the wheels apart. These help greatly. And on my smaller camper they took the wiggle out about 85%.

Then I upgraded to a longer camper. The wheel chocks still help, and I even put 2 bottle jacks near the tires to just touch to stabilize to try before I bought permanent crank down scissors jacks as others have reported good luck with them. And that helps.

BUT the longer camper is for sure not 85%. More like back down to 65%. What worked on the 27 footer does not work as well on my 32 footer. And if I did not do the wheel chocks and bottle jacks it would be like 35% super wiggle…. Due to weight, my Bal stabilizers uncrank too which does not help. They never uncranked on the smaller camper but sure do on the larger one.

I found a guy in a CG last summer who had the telescoping cross braces that go to the frame to the stabilizer foot in 2 directions. He said on his big 5er they greatly helped. Last summer at the Buttonwood M & G, Art and Jan. (Art is a very good TT mod creator) made up some but not the kind that attaches. His are removable but use the cross brace principal. On his T264SR he reported they actually do work.

The ones on line are like over $350 and on sale maybe in the real high $290’s For that king of money I will make my own and report back.

I expect this mod to be done before year end. If you can hold out that long….I’ll show you pics of the make up and report back.

John
