Sunline Mini Runabout Slide In Camper

Hello,
I’m looking at buying a Sunline Mini Runabout camper (not sure of year) for my Ram 1500 pickup truck. I’m looking to make sure it doesn’t exceed my payload capacity - does anyone know an estimate of the weight of these campers? The current owner says it weighs 800lbs - im skeptical because that means it’s one of the lightest truck campers I’ve seen. I’m really just looking to confirm if it’s below 1100lbs.

I’m asking in here because I haven’t been able to find much information about these campers online.
Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

We have brochures on the Sunline truck campers here in our files section. If you know the year, you can download the brochure and then see the listed dry (empty) weight.

To get to the FILES section, look at the top of the forum page for the words FILES, click it when logged in. Scroll to Brochures and look for you year. The truck campers may be in the travel trailer brochures

Good luck and hope this helps

John

Thanks John! I found it, looks like it may be from the early 70s. It’s under my weight limit but now my concern is that it is 50 years old lol.

Hi Matt,

The 50-year-old part, we'll it all depends on how it was kept. If it was stored inside most all its life, then you may have found a gem!

Granted, the appliances may need some updating, but they can be with new ones if needed when they stop working. Parts on the 50-year old mark for the furnace, stove, and fridge are scarce.

Water damage is the big one. See this post on a moisture meter.

If the camper lives outside and there is a leak, it will find it. The meter can only find wet water damage, not old dry rotted wood that was wet and then dried out. If you are serious about getting the camper, suggest you get the meter.

And if you are wood handy, anything in the camper can be repaired. See this one, he started totally over. But the price was right when he acquired it, free!
https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...ild-19616.html. I saw Jays handy work this summer, wow, did he do a great job with it.

Have fun with whatever you do. And if you get it, we are here to help and see what you ended up with. We like seeing all Sunlines!

John

Hi Matt,

Yeah, there aren't a ton of these early truck campers around, but I sure do get excited when I see one because each one is a learning experience.

What you were looking at, with a slightly repainted exterior, looks to me like a 1976-77 Sunline Mini-Runabout truck camper. The overall shape of the camper helped tell me that. It's not newer than 1978.

Like John said, don't let the age deter you, this could be a really solid camper. Plus it likely is to have lasted this long!

I do have a brochure uploaded for 1977 truck campers and it shows a wet weight of 972 lbs for the 1977 7' Mini-Runabout. There should also be a small metal tag, likely riveted to the back wall of the camper next to the entry door, that contains the month and year of manufacture, weight, water and gas capacities, as well as the Sunline camper identification number. That would confirm what that specific camper is rated for.
