Well friends, it's official. I am now joining the ranks of the "retired" YIKES !!!!! My SS Disability has been approved, so I won't be returning to drive my special needs bus. Next step is applying to the School Board for "Disability Pension", since I'm not old enough to collect my regular pension. Then we have to check into my frozen State of NJ Pension to see "if" I can start to collect that under disability or what.
I was a bundle of nerves about the SSDI, because everyone kept telling me don't be shocked when you get denied at least once or twice, and file my appeal right away. I had spoken to a very nice lady on the phone explained that as of 8/25 I would NO LONGER have my income and was concerned that SSDI would deny me and string out the process. She called me last tuesday to tell me that "SHE" had done a few things and pushed a few buttons and that I was approved. She did this to help me be cause she knew how stressed out I was about not having an income while SS made me jump thru hoops.
I am so relieved with this news, BUT to be honest, I will truly miss work, well not in the ice & snow nor 100* temps.
Kitty

Good for you Kitty! So pleased to hear that. Keep up the good work, and take some rest. You deserve it.

That's really good news and I think the healing process will get a boost from not having to worry about finances!

And now when the "white crap" starts falling you don't even have to think about shoveling out the bus.
Glad to hear that worked out on the first try. Now concentrate on good thoughts.

Had follow up doctor appt. yesterday due to my weekend stay in the hospital, and everything from tests for that weekend seem ok.
Now to my chemo treatments, go back in next wednesday and I will now be doing two different "flavors" of liquid chemo, no more pills. This change is being made due to the fact that my system seems to have hit a plateau and the tumors are no longer shrinking. I was also told that there is a good possibility that I will loose my hair, NOT what I was wanting to hear, as it is very very thin right now and I NEED to have hair the first week of September for a very special event. Not sure if the new chemo will make me sick either. OH, such wonderful choices. I'll just have to tuff thru it to do the things that are important to me.
Waiting for papers to arrive so I can apply for my WV Pension Disability.
And NJ sucks when it comes to my frozen pension. Either wait until I'm 60 and collect it as a pension OR cash it in now for a lot less that it might be worth "IF" I choose to collect it as a pension. But, how do I know I'll be around when I'm 60 ???? and how long might I be alive to collect? SO, NJ just really sucks. Those options are because of how I chose to freeze my pension in 1990 when I left stupid NJ. Like back then I knew I'd get cancer. I asked the guy how was I supposed to know that I'd live to be 60 to EVEN start to collect my pension ? What a dumb azz policy.
I think I"m just gonna get my $ from them so they can't have it to use for the next almost 4 years.
I just hope new chemo does not make me sick, we have camping plans July 27 weekend and I WANT to go.
Kitty
NO MORE: bus pre-tripping, post-tripping bus washing, reports, fueling, meetings, putting chains on in the freezing cold/snow. Geesh I'm sure gonna miss all that ----- probably not

Good the weekend stay created more tests. Doctors need all the tests they can get.
A change in medicines should work harder on the cancer and hopefully push it away. Besides, being bald ain't so bad. Just ask all us old baldheaded men. The only time my bald head bothers me is when I bump it on something, anything. Hair was a good padding that I was't appreciative of. Now I wear hats. Gods gift to us old men. LOL!

Oh my Kitty. I have not been on the website for weeks. It sounds like you have had quite a time of it. Glad to hear you are out of the hospital & doing better. Sending you a hug & a bunch of prayers.
