TV/TT Battery

We have a 2005 T 1950 and on the front of the TT there is a on/off switch to keep from draining the battery when the TT is in storage. My question is this: should that switch be on or off while towing. I have always turned it on so the TV can charge the TT battery. Is this correct.
Thanks

Turning it on would be my choice. Also, the battery is needed by the electric brakes in a "breakaway" situation which I hope never happens.

I also believe it's a law nationwide that if the trailer has electric brakes, it must also have a battery for emergency brake applications. I have a 14' utility trailer with electric brakes. It had no battery when I bought it and I had to add one.

Please be safe and make sure the battery switch is on.

You are correct. Battery switch on for charging while towing.

If wired properly, the breakaway circuit should be direct wired to the battery and not affected by the on/off switch. That eliminates any potential for "accidentally" turning off the breakaway system.

On my 2004 the breakaway switch is direct on the upstream side of the on/off disconnect. The only way to not have the emerg breakaway switch hot is to pull the cables off the battery.

If you want the battery to charge while towing then you need the switch on.

I always travel with the switch on. However if you left it off it will not really hurt anything.

Jim and Mary Jane, your 2005 should be made like my 2004 as 2004 was the model year the disconnect switch started showing up

Here is what a 2004 "non slide" camper junction box looks like inside. You can see the 2 little black breakaway switch wire head towards the on/off disconnect switch however one of them, the power lead, sneaks behind the switch to land the hot wire on the upstream terminal of that switch which is then direct to the battery
