Has any used the Trucenter piston setup for sway control

Currently use a single friction sway control with our T 276sr.It works ok but I would like something better. No longer use the WD-bars as the newley installed air bags work just great.Never had the dual cam setup with my WD- bars.Im considering the Trucenter but would like some input from you all before spending $ on this item. The trailer scaled in loaded at 7450 lbs.

To be honest, I have have NEVER heard of it.

Usually people argue/debate Reese Dual Cam vs Equalizer vs Hensley.

Are you refering to this Blue Ox Tru Center device? http://www.blueox.us/TruCenter/trucenter.htm

I have not seen nor heard of these being use as anti sway controls for TT's. This must be something new if they are.

I also noticed you are not using the WD spring bars any more and you want something better than a friction sway bar.

The Reese Dual cam sway control system when set up right, does a good job when coupled with good tongue weight, 12 to 15% of the TT GVW. And our Sunlines are designed with good tongue weight in mind. The DC however needs spring bars.

Normally when the WD is setup up optimized, air bags are not needed and often actually greatly affect the WD system. The spring bars work to transfer a large part of the weight off the rear axle, put some the weight back on the front axle that was removed by the ball hitch setup and put a smaller % of weight onto the TT axle. While air bags will help lift the back end up, the rear axle is still taking the blunt of the load and pending the setup, may not help the front axle. Pending the size of your truck, you could have a rear axle rating problem.

Another friendly heads up is your TV receiver. When you do not use the WD bars it is in weight carrying mode. The tongue load ratings in weight carrying mode are often a lot less. If you have a Class 5 rated heavy receiver, then they do carry a higher weight carrying rating of like 1,400 to 1,600#. But the Class 5 is usually an upgrade as most TV makers do not install them from the factory. Most Class 4's are only good for like 600# in weight carrying mode but they too vary. Look at the sticker on your TV reciever to be sure.

We do not know much about your TV so I can’t give you closer areas to go look at for issues. You may have already taken care of them and all is well.

Just trying to help if I can.

John

The item Im talking about is from Blue ox.I would like to try the WD-bars with the air bags and friction sway control to see how that setup would work. The receiver on the truck is rated for 1,200 lbs tongue wt with the WD-bars and 600 lbs tounge without the bars. Will the tongue weight become lighter if the trailer is pitched a degree or two towards the back?Do any of you know the tongue wt of a T-276sr.?Thats a good point about exceeding my receivers capasity by not using the bars.Looks like I will have to use the bars in order to be safe with a trailer weight like mine.Did tow I-75 here in Fl. with the WD- bars only for about 25 miles and no sway control.Things were controlable but could not have done 2-3hrs like this. Thanks for everyones input.

Chris,

I've never heard of it either. Let us know if you try it and how it works.

The factory spec for tongue weight is approx. 750 lbs. But, with two propane tanks, the battery, a full transverse storage compartment, and the closets in the bedroom upfront, I'd bet it's closer to 1000 lbs. I want to get it weighed now that we've kind of settled where things are stored.

Anyhow, I have an Equilizer hitch on our T-276 and pulled it several times with a short bed, regular cab Dodge 1500 without any sway issues. I am looking forward to pulling it with the Quad Cab 2500 CTD we just aquired!! Bringing it back after the dealer set-up the hitch and put in the Brake controller was a joy. The 1500 is a bit under powered for this size trailer!! BTW, Both trucks squat really low before the WD is put on.

when we first brought the 276sr home from the dealer it squatted the Dodge 1500 quad cab just enough to make things perfectly level. With the added stuff in the front storage compartment, under the bed, tongue mounted generator etc Im sure the weight is really up there for the tongue. The 1000 lbs WD-bars did level things out for me but when you throw 850 lbs of golf cart in the back bed things become a bit heavy for a half ton truck. So it was either a 3/4 ton truck, add a leaf spring, air bags,or move some weight around. The air bags were most cost efficent for our budget.Im still within the trucks CGVWR,GVWR, load carrying capasity and towing rating. It seams that as said I will exceed the rated capasity of the reciever unless I go back to using the greasy, messy WD-bars.I will plan on buying the tounge scale to see were I stand from a safety point of view. If anyone has a PPL rv parts catolog the Blue ox sway control Trucenter is shown for travel trailers in the hitch section.
