wieght dist. hitch
Hello, I have recently purchased a 1986 Sunline 2250. The Gvw on the side of the vehicle states 4480lbs. I am trying to determine if I need a wieght dist. hitch. The tongue wieght on my trailblezerext v8 is rated for 400lb. I have been towing the camper locally without problems, this is done with no extra wieght and totaly empty and just a common hitch set up(no wdh or sway friction bar). If anyone can help I would appreciate some insite. Thank You. Nick

Nick,
It's all up to you. Personally, I would get one, but that's my opinion. My 1550 is the only trailer I didn't use a WD, and all the others I have. You have to answer these questions though:
- Do you plan on a lot of highway travel?
- Do you plan to take a lot of campers with you in the TV?
- If you take a lot of people, you will take more things in the TT than you would for just 2 people.
- Do you plan on storing extra "rainy day" items in there all the time, like jackets, blankets, etc, that can add weight.

Good Morrning Nick,
I personally would get a weight-distributing hitch and at "minimum" a friction sway bar. Need to protect that Sunline, as it's a "rare" breed now An Equalizer or Reese dual cam would be nice in the fact they can be transferred to another trailer should you decide to go larger later on.
Check the receiver on your TB, "IF" it's only rated for 400 lbs, I'd be having that puppy replaced with a larger capacity, weight dirtributing one. GVWR of your Sunline is 4480 lbs and idealy you should have about 13% to 15% of tongue weight, that will put you over your receivers capacity. Sunlines are built to be well balanced, so it's possible that even empty your over the 400lb rating of your receiver. I'm sure others can explain this better than I can. Does your TB have the factory tow package?
I'm sure others can explain it better, as it's early and I'm on my way out the door to work.
Kitty

Thanks for the info Kitty and Jon. I did purchase a wd hitch and a friction sway eliminator. Now I am going to try and figure out how to install them. Have a good day. Nick

weight distribution hitch
Hello, I have purchased a wdh but I believe it is bit to much. The wd is made by putman and is very heavy. The bars are rated at 1000 lbs. After further investigation I am trying to trade it in on a reese wdh with dual cam sway control. I still am not sure of which bars to get 600 or 800. The camper gvw is 4480. Most of the the reese wdh are rated 600/6000 or 800/10000 for the trunnion style. The round bar style is 500/5000 or 750/10000. Due to the fact that the sunline tongue is only 18 in high. I am leaning towards the trunnion style. If anyone has any wisdom on this please let me know. Thank you.

Nick,
I've always used a Draw-tite (same as Reese) 750 lb. round bar style, and have had no problems. The only time the bars drag is when I make them drag, when going off road and over very rough terrain.
