Dometic Fridge Operating With Gas
Going through my "new 1992 unit" and cannot get my fridge to work on the gas setting. Opened the back access panel on the outside of the truck camper and got no where. Any thoughts on how to get this working? Burners, oven and hot water heater all work fine.

Dometic Fridge Operating With Gas
Are you sure you have all the air purged from the line? I know it took a while to get the fridge to fire up on my 96 model if it sat for 3 or 4 days turned off . It was the last appliance on the gas line.

I had one of the 3 burners on the stove lit and going and fired up the hot water heater as well. So gas was flowing.......but nothing.

I assume yours is electronic (lights on a panel) I believe there are two fuses on the control board. Is the "check light on?

Another thought have someone operate the fridge open the outside hatch and see if you can hear the gas valve open. It should make a clunk sound if it does not then there is something up with the control system.

Does it work on electric? When you say doesn't work on gas, do you mean the flame doesn't light, or it just won't cool? Is it Automatic ignition or manual ignition?

Had this problem...
loosen the gas line fitting closest to the Gas Valve. Turn on your Propane tank. You'll hear the gas leak out and/or smell it. tighten the fitting. be sure to air out your camper before clicking the igniter. If it doesn't ignite after that you have a more troublesome problem. Either igniter is bad or gas valve isnt functioning properly. Another tip check to see if gas line to fridge has the valve shutoff in the proper position.

The fridge does work fine on electric fortunately.
It has the push button igniter but I cannot see any spark thru the viewing window.
Would the next step be to open the control panel at the bottom of the fridge inside the camper? I am thinking it might be as simple as the igniter.

cont...
I believe your igniter will be accessible via the Exterior Cover. Not from the inside of the Camper.

OK that make a big difference this is a push button that takes some effort to operate? It should actually have two of the same size on must be pushed in and held the other one is momentary. The fact it works on electric is good it means the fridge is fine. It is not an electrically controlled fridge the only electrical connection is for the city powers heating element. The igniter seldom goes bad there is a rectangular tin panel held on with one screw that covers the boiler assembly inside is the business end of the igniter and the actual boiler itself they sometimes build up carbon on the burner assembly and will not light it will flick off easily with a small tool match stick will work. If it appears ok have a friend push the igniter you should see a nice blue spark. Beyond that there is the gas control itself it is a mechanical rod that turns the gas valve you can also see that operate if your friend turns it.

I have the same typeof fridge in mine. If it hasn't run in a while, I have to hold the gas button in for a minute or more and keep pushing the igniter once in a while before it will light. It's hard to see the flame in the viewer in the sunlight, it helps if you shade it or try it in not so bright conditions. Or, as Mainah suggests, try it from outside.

Yes it can take some time to purge the air particularly if the tank has been off for awhile all though running the stove should take care of most of it.

I have the same type of frig. It took me quite a while to get it going on propane. And this was after I turned on the burners and the water heater. It's definitely not quick. The button that you press and hold, you will need to hold it in for a bit. I didn't time it to see how long but it was a while.

Do you have a battery installed on the front...Some of the older fridges need a battery to operate.

Yes, has a battery in stalled and as well, it wouldn't start when the camper is plugged into shore power.

If it has the two push buttons it needs no battery. If it has a panel with lights it does.

I had the same problem, and found that if I lit the burner with a match the fridge worked fine. The igniter wasn't working.

Is the burner accessible to light with a lighter from the front or the back, that is from the outside of the fridge?
Thanks
