Question Dometic refrig, RM2301, elec/gas. 1989 t-1700 saturn

Hi,
Just got back from our 1st trip, what a great time and fabulous trailer experience. Had a camping neighbor come over to chat and help out asked if I had run the refer on propane yet. No, not yet, I really don't know how. Friend says, lets do it, I'll show you how. Seems he'd had several sunny's in his day. Piezo electric did not work so attempted to light with a grill lighter but after about 10 minutes, switched back to electric with a promise to get it working. Several attempts later and still no flame to heat the ammonia.

What should I be looking for, got used to it working nicely on elec. but now going to self sufficiency in a NY state campground and would really like to not use an ice chest.
Any and all recommendations will be followed up on.
Thanks in advance.

The piezo thing made no spark? Or it just did not light? The tips get plugged up where the gas comes out or spider webs clog the burner. I'll assume you held down the button while pushing the lighter. It's a good thing to fix they work the best on gas and a 20# cylinder will run them for months.

Minah,
You are a God send, I'm sure the owners club already knows this. I held down the button and pushed the piezo lighter and the neighbor that I mentioned watched. He saw no spark and it did not light. We then tried to light it with a grill lighter under the thermo couple but still nothing. That said, it was a bright day and maybe he just did not see the spark. I'm going to look at all the stuff involved this afternoon, check the nozzle and burner and when the sun goes down a bit and we are in shade I'll try again to see if we have any spark.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity

Yeah if they take some effort and clicks it probably sparks. If he tried to light it and no one was holding the light button in it won't light. The button that doesn't snap allows the gas to flow until the thermocouple heats up.

If you were holding down the gas button and it did not light with the grill lighter, your burner tube is likely clogged. I would remove the cover and clean it with a wire brush to make sure all of the slots on it were opened up. Bugs love the smell of LP and build nests where they can. A lot of furnace, water heater and fridge problems on LP are from them building nest in and on the burner tubes.
