First off Welcome to your wife and you to the club!
Now to your question on the T2499 HW heater by pass.
Here see this pic from my prior 2004 T2499
Now to get to that you flip up the couch, hold up with 1 hand. Then take out a screw or 2 of the thin Luan sheet covering that area. Then with a 3rd hand.... reach in and see the 2 valves. The valve has a pointing type handle that indicates the direction of water flow.
And after you wrestle with that couch enough.... check out this mod I did.
