Atwood Water Heater Problems
All of a sudden my water heater does not work
Took a shower earlier but when I went to do the dishes, no hot water
When I switch to gas the igniter flames comes on for a few seconds then shuts off?
The manual is not much use and when researching problems I see references to things like reset button, removing wires to clean etc that I do not see on mine
I do not see any red reset button and it looks to me all wires are soldered?
However, the problem still remains No Hot Water
Thought I would ask here before calling expensive mobile repair

Have you checked the water heater circuit breaker for the 110v to make sure it isn't tripped? Flip it off, then on. If burner flames on and goes out, might have some air in the gas line or possible obstruction/debris/spider web in the burner tube.

1.When on gas mode, and the flame comes on and then goes out, do you hear clicking like the igniter is sparking?
2. When on gas mode, does the little red fault light on the tank panel come on? To reset the fault, you flip the gas red rocker switch off and then back on.
If we know the answers to # 1 & 2 above it can help narrow this down. Your 2005 water heater uses the same safety controls on both the gas and electric. If one of the safeties is not making due to corrosion on the wires, it will stop both gas and electric mode from working.
Hope this helps
John

Joan,
Yes, the KIB tank panel is the area to reset a gas flame fault. The little red light between 2 red water heater switches that says DSI fault, (DSI= Direct Spark Ignition) means there is a flame fault on the water heater when it is running on gas. A flame fault is; the flame was never established, it blew out or ran out of gas etc. Bottom line, no flame when there was supposed to be and raw gas is able to flow not being burnt, so the heater controls shuts down on safety.
To reset the fault and the light, you turn the "LP gas" red switch off and then back on and the fault is reset. This flame fault only will happen when the water heater is running on gas. It will not show this fault for the electric mode.
Hope this helps
John

Yes. The little light between the two water heater switches will light up indicating a flame out fault. To reset the fault, turn the water heater lp gas switch off, then on. This will restart the ignition sequence. What was the operator error you discovered?
