heater help,help,help?

I am working on a 1988 Sunliner 29/SV. I am trying to resolve a heater issue. Am very electrical and mechanically capable but know nothing about system. Father's trailer, he said when he turned the heater on it should blow cold air and then start working. Filled propane tanks, followed all instructions on heater, checked fuses on converter. Blower is not coming on. Would appreciate any technical input/support on how to test blower, volt/mv, output/input or can I manually bypass switches to test blower motor itself?

Is there a good battery on the trailer, because I believe the blower is 12V Some of the guys will be along shortly to help you out more.

Hi jeffo, welcome to the SOC.

I don't have a lot of experience working on the furnace but Kitty got you off to a good start, you need to make sure there is a good 12 volts first. Next make sure the blower motor CAN turn, give it a spin by hand to make sure (you probably already did). The blower motor gets its 12 volts from a control board when the thermostat calls for heat. One side of the motor should be ground (usually black wire), hot side (usually red wire) should have 12 volts from controll board. When the blower is blowing it causes a "sail switch" to close to allow gas to flow and then the igniter to light the gas.

I came accross this which may (or may not) be yours but it should lead you somewhat through the wiring.

Gene and everyone else,

I just added the Atwood 8500 furnace install and maintenance manual and the 7900 & 8000 furnace install manual to the Files area under Heating & Cooling.

I am slowly working my way through my Sunline binder and getting all the manuals online here in the SOC Files area.

One thing I noticed is that the manual for the 8500 series furnace hasn't changed much since '99. I don't know how far back the 8500 series goes prior to '99, but it will probably be helpful to a wide range of owners.

There are other manuals for other series furnaces and other Atwood appliances on their website RV Components, Gas Appliances, Marine Products, Chassis Components, Seating Systems, Windows and Doors from Atwood Mobile

Same for dometicusa.com
