Depends on what you want to store in there. The top section doesn't look all that deep in the pic. If you'll put big stuff in there like big pots, or an extra sleeping bag, then I'd do the top opening. If you don't have a plan, and it might be a bunch of little things, then doors. A top opening cabinet makes a great laundry hamper!

I agree with the guys....a door on top would force you to move everything that is sitting on it. Besides, it will look "smoother" and cleaner without the split top.

How about putting shelves that slide out in the cabinets like they have in kitchens?

So I ran into some delays between rain/work/other important junk and being a dad most of all (Daughter starting kindergarten). But anyway I finally was able to finish out the cabinets.

Ended up using the laminate floor to face the cabinets and then a piece of Formica to create the counter top. Went with a door on the side that opens by folding in the downward direction. The current door is temporary as I am going to redo it so that it will match the rest of it. Just put it on for sizing.

So, So far I have ripped out all the factory linoleum floor and horrible pink carpet, redone the rotted spots in the floor, removed the dinette, extended the bed to fit a full size bedroom queen mattress with storage under the end of the bed, reinforced the awning poles, laid the laminate flooring, built the custom storage cabinet that is replaced the dinette and acts as the entertainment center, and trimmed out the entire camper with stained quarter round.

What is left, Water test all the water lines in the camper, Replace the exterior plug under the window for a GFI and figure out why it is not working, Switch out the counter top in the kitchenette to match the Formica used in the new cabinetry. Put the Smart Tile back splash up in the kitchen, paint the bedroom area hunter green, pick up the new Real Tree Curtains that I have had custom made for the bedroom area, put the new Real Tree Bed Comforter in the camper, Restock all the stuff in the camper, hang a few pictures and last but not lease CAMP.

Tell me what you think about my cabinets.

Sorry pic is a little blurry.

Later on,

Bobby

Nice job and a nice touch using the floor laminate for the cabinet face.

Very nice. Looks like it was meant to be. I see the potential for a love seat on that surface as well. I say that because give me any horizontal surface and I clutter.

Today after work I got back to work on the project. Today was electrical day. The plug on the outside of the camper was not working and has not worked since I owned the camper.

Pulled both plugs on the inside of the camper that is on the same wall and checked to see if it was piggy back off one of them. Well that left me scratching my head because it looked like the bottom one was piggy backed off the top one. So I put them back into the wall.

Then a thought hit me, I have used the bottom plug to charge my cell phone but I have never used the plug that is in the old TV hole maybe I am wrong and the outside plug is piggy backed off the TV plug. So I turned the power back on. Check the bottom plug with my electric drill and everything was fine. Plugged it into the top plug, pulled the trigger and nothing happen. No Power! So now I have 2 plugs in a chain that are not working. Where is the next stop in the chain.

The thought hit me, if all the breakers are good maybe there is a GFI in the chain other than the one in front of the sink. Turns out I was right, there was a GFI in the corner of the bathroom behind the storage next to the toilet.

Yeah!!!!!! There is now power to the exterior plug on the camper. Only took me an hour and a little head scratching. Replaced the outside GFI cover with a locking weather tight cover. All shined up and another item off the checklist.

Tomorrow going to take on the outside exterior shower. Going to replace that little shower head with a removable house style patterned shower head.

Has anyone ever put a standard flushing house toilet into a travel trailer? What was the problems other than space that you ran into?

Lets here it!

I can think of one reason that you wouldn't normally find a standard toilet in a trailer and that is the amount of water used for flushing, the weight of toilet and the drain size.

I think that is 3 reasons, and they are all good reasons.

So today I finally got around to completing the water test on the camper. Everything is working great. The pump is perfect and no leaks that I can detect.

The only thing I am looking into for the water system is that I am going to run a braided hose from the under sink connection to the outdoor shower connection and then place a permanent female connector on the end of the braided line. This will be used to attach a house style shower hand held head onto when needed. The little stock shower head just does not cut the mustard and I am looking for one with the different settings like I have in my bathroom. Also going to replace the one that is inside the camper to where the same shower head can be used inside if desired.

Got a few cosmetic things left to do in the kitchen area that I have added on but getting there slowly. Putting matching Formica down on the kitchen counter and a Smart Tile backsplash. Thinking of going with one of the electronic thermostats that I read about on one of the other post on here. No sure of the benefits but hey while I am at it might as well upgrade.

later on good people,.

Bobby

So I took the time to inspect the outdoor shower on the camper today and figured out that it is all 1/2 connections. So here you go, a shower for the 4 legged friends that are in our life.

Looks like it would also work good for turkey fryer type pots and such (that are essential on our camping trips) that are too big to wash up inside.
