Redoing the refrigerator space
I hope the photo shows up as this is my first attempt at posting an image to accompany the text. Here's how I redid the refrigerator space after the original Dometic gave up the ghost and left a hole the size of Montana to fill. I framed in the hole with some 3 inch molding strips and then added the 1" outside "L" molding around the rough cutout hole on the outside edges. I set a board, cut to the correct dimensions of the fridge top, on top of the refrigerator and this made a great shelf for the microwave. Since our trailer is permanantly situated, we don't have to worry about the fridge and the microwave flying around like you folks who haul your trailers, but a few straps or braces would hold these two items in place.
Sorry about the lack of color co-ordination with the fridge and the microwave, but the fridge and the microwave were given to me by friends who didn't want them....maybe some black spray paint????

Thanks...yes we thought about that...that's a lot of space to cover...don't know if I can buy a piece that is big enough to cover the whole thing and if not whether piecing it together will look right or just be kinda cheap looking when we've finished. ...I WILL check into that though! Is contact paper durable enough?

LOL, your posts always have flare to them. So there are ghosts in Montana??? LOL...
Your setup looks good andfor the price you can't be beat!
On the color coordination, well you have a black stove door with a white stove top. Maybe next time try to find a black fridge and a white micro wave and the combo can match the stove? Of find a stove with a back top and a white bottom.....
All joking aside, after a few weeks the colors will not matter much. They blend in as like I said you allready have black and white in the kitchen.
In our kitchen at home we have almond, stove, dishwaher and fridge. They all match as they are all Kenmore (Whirpool) from Sears. But we have a black Whirlpool microwave above the stove built into the cabinet. We have had them now for at least the last 15 years. Well the other day I was looking at them and said to Cindy, why didn't we get the almond micorwave? She said, they only offered black and white and white was a worse match so we went black. I had forgotten and well, heck if didn't bother us for the last 15 years why start now? LOL.....
John
PS
Now if you had a turquoise fridge, that might need a color correction…. My mom had one growing up as a kid.... Looked good back then. Havn't seen one for sale since

My Dad used to be a refrigeration man, and I remember those turquoise monstrosities!! Heck, who am I kidding...I remember belt driven refrigerators!!!
Yes, John B as usual, you are right. The black and white looks better all the time...especially thinking about the turquoise that might have been. Thanks for the compliment...it ain't perfect....but neither am I.

If you want black, I have a suggestion. I used some cheap plastic frame and had a sheet of black plexiglass cut to size. Glued 3 sides of the frame to the white fridge, and one to the plexi....instant slide in black fridge door. Easy, looks great, and less than twenty bucks!

DO they still make the black "contact" paper that also serves as a chalk board ??? Then you'd have the black door with a build in message board. OK, it's called " Contact Chalkboard paper" You can probably find it in a store near you or google it so that you can order it.
