Laptop WiFi & new router
1st, I apologize if this is in the wrong place 2nd, I NEED HELP, I have a WiFi compatable laptop, and had been using it here at home when my desktop wouldn't open things, it often did (different programs on each).
My internet is provided thru Comcast Cable Co, and I had a D-Link router that was working fine UNTIL it died. So, I bought a new D-Link router, followed the install instructions and I can't get my laptop to go online. Got any suggestions, I'm not a techy person, just dangerous with TOOLS

WaHoo, my friend George came over tonight, we disconnected the router, reset it and then proceeded to reinstall it. Well, still nothing So,, I started to make dinner, and he kept messing with the stupid thing, and the next thing I know, he says, I have WiFi again on my laptop. Had something to do with a security # needing to be inserted somewhere. I don't have a clue, it's not a saw, drill, or hammer, that I know how to use.

It may have been the SSID or the WPA encryption keys needing to be entered on your laptop. Those grant access to the wireless connection from each device... computer... trying to use it.
Hopefully your friend George setup your router to use WPA encryption. And set both your SSID and your admin password to something other than the defaults from the factory. Doing all this helps secure your wireless connection from being hijacked.
Glad you're back online with your wireless connection.

Hi Dave,
What I do know is that George asked me for 2 seperate "codes" while he was getting my router to work, and said that was to make my wifi more secure, so I guess that's what you mentioned.
I just got home from work so I can't call him now to check it out.
Thanks for the info,
Kitty
