I wonder if the ceramic insulation part of the ignitor may have been damp / defective and had a path to leak the high voltage to ground. The heat from the grill lighter or the electric element may have dried it enough to let the voltage spark at the burner tube where it should. As I recall I may have removed my ignitor and cleaned it too but didn't replace it. Just a guess. I also remember an old car I had that would misfire on damp nights. I opened the hood one dark night and saw quite a light show on the outside of the old dirty spark plugs. Car ran much better when I put in new plugs!!!
