MM,

Thanks! To continue the topic of removing the door latch, I've prepared a pictoral guide to removing and reinstalling the latch assembly. I'll post more pictures of the rest of my room over in Sunline Community later.

TO REMOVE A TRI-MARK RV DOOR LATCH:

Step 1: Remove 4 screws on inside of door:

Step 2: Slowly pull at the inside part of the latch to remove. Set on the side:

Step 3: Remove the 2 screws on the side of the door:

Step 4: Carefully pull out the latch assembly. It most likely will stick on the edge of the opening, so be careful not to crack the bubbled panel:

Here are some pics of what the latch looks like on the inside. It appears that the whole assembly is riveted together, so taking it apart wasn't an option for me:

Step 5: Reinstall the main part of the latch, from the outside:

Step 6: Reinstall the 2 screws on the side of the door. Make sure you take the shorter screws, not the longer ones:

Step 7: Reinstall the inside handle part of the latch. Make sure the flat spot on the red lock handle matches up with the flat spot on the lock post:

Step 8: Reinstall the 4 screws holding the inside part on:

Step 9: Check lock and latch mechanism to ensure proper performance:

Step 10: Check locksets with key to ensure key works well. If it doesn't, this is the time to refer back to step 1 and find out why it won't work:

Great Step by-step process, wish I had had it three weeks ago

One thing I did notice, the locksets on our '07 have one slight difference, no rivets. The silver backing plate is held on with screws. It's fun trying to hold the spring, the latch, the backing plate, and put the screws back in!!!! Especially since the whole time the deadbolt is trying to fallout!!!

BTW, That is some room!!!!!!

I guess I'm not surprised that the locksets have changed. That door has been in place since April 2004 (the rest of the room was just done in Dec. '06), but it sat at General RV in Brownstown, MI for quite a while.

I'm sort of glad that mine's riveted in. I've tried to repair dog leashes that have been a pain like that, where the spring won't stay in place to put the whole thing together.

Your own RV door at the house. You are the ultimate Sunline Fan....

And thanks for the step by step pictorial. Now I know the inside is filled with Styrofoam.

Thanks

John

John,

The inside is all styrofoam, from top to bottom and left to right. When my dad rebuilt all three doors from my '94's due to the bottom wood rotting out, he also added a center support just below the frame around the handle (the '94 doors had a frame made of ~2x3's around the opening for the handle). The extra support really strengthened the door, so it really felt solid. No more squishy feeling when closing the door. It sounds more solid just when closing it.

Isn't that odd? My 2653's keys are different. The PO put dimples in the front key with a center punch.

Both of my 2004 Sunlines with 2 doors had 2 different lock set's too. Had to slide one of those colored rubber covers over 1.

Almost four years later, and I still run my finger into the notch on the side of my key whenever I go near the door locks!!!

Has to go down as one of the most used "mods" I've ever made!!!

Mack

PS mdfiregals keys are not notched, drive me crazy when I have to borrow them!!!!
