Painting '79 roof

Hi Friends,


We acquired a 79 sunline last year that, unfortunately, has a black roof. I believe it is a Carlisle EPDM coating on it now. What I would like to know is if it is possible to put white Diecor directly over it. Any advice, tips, or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I'm going to take a stab at your question which will at least put it back at the top of the list for someone with a similar generation trailer and more knowledge than I have.

Your Sunline has an aluminum roof. The seams should be coated with a product designed for mobile homes. Google "mobile home roof coating" to get lots of hits including a white product at Home Depot.

I believe Carlisle EPDM is an industrial product not necessarily applicable to RVs. Google "Dicor", which is the RV company for info on their products. I doubt that you have a black EPDM rubber membrane roof--it would by a real DIY job with the industrial membrane. Check the edges of the roof to see if there is any DIY molding that would secure a rubber membrane. If not, then it is just a coating and could be covered with a similar white one like the one from Home Depot. However, compatibility is a wild card--test first on a small area. And, don't forget it's a roof... you need a ladder to see it.
