The "Mystery Wire"

Husband put in a battery disconnect switch in the 2363 today - in the windy 30-degree weather - and opened the junction box under the couch. There he discovered a "mystery wire".

So, what is the yellow wire in the center of this picture and why might it be cut off without a wire nut or tape covering? Thank you for your help!

Could be someone wired in a power jack here, even though it looks like you have the factory crank one (even though it could have been put back on). That's the only thing I could think of, but then again, the things some people do amaze me...

If your 7 wire cable that plugs into the back of the truck goes to that junction box, then I have what the yellow wire "might" be

You can see the small yellow wire here in this junction box on the header of my prior T2499. See the big heavy 7 wire cable on the right of the box. In the middle is a yellow wire cut back about 1/2" long. It is under the green wire in the pic

The yellow wire in the 7 wire cable is the reverse light wire. Sunline cut it off as they do not use the reverse wire since long ago. I have heard some of the real old Sunlines had back up lights.

Here is the same yellow wire on my T310SR. In this case the little yellow wire is just hanging out of the top right bundle of wires

Regardless of where other end is, the end in the junction box now is properly covered by an orange wirenut.
HATE exposed conductors!!!

Did you put wire nuts on the studs the wires are fastened onto? I see the yellow wire clipped and the wire is exposed as it is connected to the stud. Maybe a half inch of distance between the exposed pieces.

I know this thread's been here a while, but I just saw this one. I thought I'd mention that our 1988 T-1350 has functional backup lights. When did Sunline stop using them?

Good question and "why'? Having back up lights is very handy backing into a campsite at night.

That's what I would think, too. I've never had to do it, but I'd like all the light I could get back there if I did - even with our stubby little girl. After all, the backup lights on the TV would be blocked by the TT and would create a lot of unwanted glare. Wouldn't/doesn't it?

We do Friday night dark arrival camping a lot, mostly off season when it is dark at 6:00pm. Total darkness. During the summer we have light until 9:00pm and it is not an issue. We only do dark arrival in campgrounds we know. Even when we had the T2499 you cannot see anything behind the trailer in the truck mirrors. The mirrors only reflect what you can see/light they pick up.

The glare off the front of the camper by the truck back up lights, yes there is some glare as it is light that the mirrors can find to show you something... but in our setup the glare is not that bad. Having large extending truck mirrors may help.

DW and a flashlight is the camper back up lights right now. Before I start backing in, I get out and do a walk around to make sure the picnic table, fire ring or something else is not in the way. Seems our winter favorite dry spots are sites where you starting to back in on the blind side. (backing right)

The process…. First is sound….Any sounds that might be a go, stop or woo. I stop. To get started, DW points the light straight down as a marker on the right side of the pad entrance and I head to the marker on the edge of the pad. Then when the camper starts tracking onto the pad, she moves to the back right side of the pad. Once the truck comes around, she moves to the left rear of the pad. The hardest part of the backup turn is when you cannot see anything in the driver side mirror until the truck comes around to the see the left side of the camper. Think backing up with your eyes closed… We do the same flashlight marking spot process when the pad is angled so I’m backing first on the left. After you do it a few times, the stress level goes away. The enjoyment of camping in the offseason outweighs the negatives…

Some day…back up lights on the camper will come. Just I may have them on a switch on the camper to turn them on and off. Can use them for other things too.

That's a good idea - even if you would have to use 12v floods or something on the TT's rear bumper, detachable/portable or permanent.

We try to arrive early when it's first come, first served. We've never arrived back home after dark either. Some day (er, night) I may get to try out the backup lights. It's nice knowing they are back there - and work.
