Dyeing carpet?

Rather than replacing..have any of you ever tried to dye the fading carpet? Mine is in good condition except for the inevitable fading. Please share with me your pros and cons...Janalee

Mine is like that too and I had similar thoughts so I am going to watch this thread. The carpet in the under-bed storage area looks great though ....

I posted this question on another forum and had several replies..most of them were negative. Guess I will think about replacing it..its the tearing it out that I hate to even think about . Maybe another shampooing and give it lots more thought. Now in earlier times, Sunline ran the vinyl all the way through under the carpeting but several people have said they found it stopped short of the sofa edge or I would have tried to just leave it bare with some throw rugs. It did used to go all the way through. Maybe you can pull it up a little in a spot hidden under the sofa and take a peek.

I was going to remove carpet in my Jayco and leave bare vinyl but after removing carpet I found a thousand little tack holes around perimeter of carpet and floor register. I ended just replacing with a remnant.

Hi Janlee,

Don't know about the color dyeing part however in 2004 Sunlines, Our T2499 and the T310SR, the vinyl stops about 6" or so under the carpet. Must of been a cost savings thing. Floor plan and how much carpet you have may also dictate how much vinyl is there or not.

And like Jim said, the zillion staples. On ours, Sunline folded the carpet to make the edge seam to the vinyl. Meaning they turned the carpet fiber side down on the vinyl, stapled it a zillion times and then folded it back up and ran the rest of the carpet to the wall etc. While I am joking on the zillion, odds of having about 100 little staple holes in a 6 foot run is not that far off.

Good luck and let us know how this comes out.

John

Janelle, Our 1950 had a stain the we couldn't remove. Took out the carpet and replaced with laminate flooring. See pix in my album.
