Personal Comments:
DD and I went to James River State Park for a day of hiking. We parked at the campground and picniced and used the bathrooms there for the day. Probably not where we were supposed to park, but there were only 4 campers there at the time. I didn't expect the campground to even be open, since it was March 9th. This campground is lovely, with enormous sites. The bathrooms were spotless, but then there were only 4 campers there. They also have a nice laundry room. During the season there is a canoe rental and shuttle service. The river looks like a nice place to kayak, although there is a sign that says not to eat the fish you catch because of PCBs? Kind of makes you wonder about swimming in the water. They have a stocked fishing pond. Nice easy trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
