Antifreeze in 1985 T-1550

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to campers and to winterizing. I have a 1985 Sunline T-1550 that I'm restoring and am looking for advice on how many gallons of antifreeze I need to put in it? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Hi,

You should have 2 gallons of RV pink Antifreeze (try and get rated to -50 F if you can) to winterize the fresh water lines, water pump, and pipe traps. Getting an extra 3rd gallon on hand can be good if you over-purge a faucet, etc., since this is your first time doing this. If you do not use it this year, it will last for next year.

The gallons listed above assume you have a piping kit and hose to allow the antifreeze to be drawn directly from the jug by the water pump and then pumped into the freshwater piping. Also, your camper has a water heater bypass system, so you do not have to fill the 6 gallons of water heater with antifreeze.

NOTE: The water heater and fresh tank must be drained when you do the above winterizing process.

If your camper does not have the water pump antifreeze suction kit (known as a winterizing kit) or the water heater bypass system, there are ways around this, but we need that info from you to help better.

I hope this helps,

John
