Giving my T1950 A Refresh and Facelift
I have been working on my Sunline Lite T1950 for the past few weeks now and I thought I would share some of the work and progress.
The exterior was a little worn when I got it about 3 years ago, and I have been wanting to give her a facelift for a while. But, life got in the way I was too busy after using it to relocate. It sat for about a year, still with some of my personal belongings it it from relocating. The Tennessee sun and creeping algae, all taking its toll during that year.
Although the interior is messy, it is still in excellent shape. Just needs stuff moved out and a good cleaning.
I hope to have it ready for a mid-May first voyage of the year!
First picture I forgot to take a dirty "before shot". So the side is clean, but this picture IS before I did some black streak removal and repainted the front panel:
The second picture, is after I used the Clorox Wipes to remove most of the removable black streaks. What is not removable, is the top stripe that runs down the side of the RV. The tape was mis-colored by the black streaks, or someone had used black streak remover that damaged the top tape. I will be replacing that in the near future.
I also repainted the front panel.

Tennessee has this creeping green algae that starts to grow on anything that does not get full sun. I guess the entry side of the vehicle was stored facing north, because it got a terrible case of the creeping green algae, even though it was parked on a great concrete pad! The concrete under the RV grew thick, gross, fishy smelling algae too.
Here is a picture of what one Tennessee summer did with the algae, and then the after cleaning picture. Notice that the door has yellowed. I am going to give that a facelift in the next weekend or two.
In this clean picture, I have not yet cleaned up the black streaks with the Clorox Wipes. Pictures to follow.

For the rock guard, it had the creeping green algae growing in the fiber glass. I don't have a picture of that, but it was nasty. I had to scrub it real good with regular car wash stuff.
When I was ready to paint, I found big alcohol wipes in the pharmacy. I prepped the surface by wiping with the alcohol wipes. The sun was out, and I was amazed by the amount of fiberglass sparkle that went up as I was wiping. I probably should have had some eye/face protection while doing that, but I am still alive. I took a real good shower later.
I bought white primer at Auto Zone. I don't have the name of it here with me right now, but it does not require a top coat. I applied 4-5 coats, while masking off the original horizontal stripes.
When I was done painting and after I let it dry for 24 hours, it was apparent there was still going to be some fiberglass texture visible if I applied the decal. I discussed options with a couple of people and at the auto parts store. Short of redoing the paint with a filling primer, I was not sure if it would flex well, I decided to apply the decal without filling. I figured if the texture was consistent throughout the decal, it might not look too bad.
I think it came out really well. You don't notice the texture unless you are up close. Even then, who would really know what it originally looked like other than someone who has seen a new Sunline?
That is why I included the close up of the decal. Just in case anyone else wants to do this, they can see if they can live with the texture or not. I am happy with it, it is a nice facelift on an older trailer, it is not going to look new, at this point.
I will post paints and cleaners later, after work.
P.S. After I removed the black streaks with the Clorox wipes, I did hose the RV off as a rinse. I was not sure what the hot Tennessee sun would do on the RV with the chemicals left to dry. It worked out as good as any RV specific black streak remover I have tried.

Your restoration is looking really good! Unfortunately the fiberglass pieces do yellow easily, and the only way to get rid of it completely is to paint over. I like using Krylon Fusion paint, which is made for plastic and will flex.
You could see a little of the fiberglass pattern in the original decals, but not much. The vinyl was generally pretty thick. As long as you press the decal down good enough, you shouldn't have any adhesion issues. Personally, I'd rather have a little texture showing through vs. trying to use filler that can crack and come loose.

I also crafted a new spare tire cover. The logo on the old one was still good, but the rest of the tire cover was in tatters. I cut the logo off, and stitched it onto a new tire cover.
I also removed the ragged sticker from the rear easily with a hair dryer. There was residual sticky dirt from the sticky parts that were exposed due to the degrading sticker. It is coming off with alcohol and wipes. I have to finish that. I did not get to put the new logo on today, I will do that over the next few days, hopefully.

Looks good! Yeah, removing old decals can be a pretty tedious process.

Thanks for posting this. I have the exact same trailer. All of the logo's were already removed from mine by the PO. I didn't realize there was one on the back. I plan to paint the rock guard and door sometime this year. Hope it turns out as nice as yours. I've used the Krylon in the past, and that is what I was leaning toward using.
I assume there must be information somewhere on this site as to where to get the new logos.

I've been working on some, but since I can't print them myself, it takes a while. Some are available on eBay, but the proportions and colors are a little off. Here's the one for your coach, I have no affiliation with the seller:

Thanks you for the information! Just have to decide if I want to replace it, or just let it white.

No problem. Unfortunately that's a decision that many have to make, and with what it costs to reproduce a decal, many choose to let it stay white.
Sunline looked into having some of the popular decals reproduced, but even with their volume discounts, buying a small lot of these old decals would be terribly expensive. Many customers expected a replacement decal for free, as advertising. People are willing to spend on it now, but still not for the true cost to create the decal.
The one I linked above I've thought about recreating, I have the file all done and I'm ready to print. But knowing it'll probably cost about the same as the one on eBay, maybe a little more, they are a hard sell. They are a hard sell with no competition, and an even harder sell with competition.

Your exterior work really looks great!
We had a house with one whole side facing northeast, never got any sun so the vinyl siding was prone to that algae. We used Jo-Max house cleaner and, while it didn’t keep it off forever, it didn’t come back as quickly & extended the time between cleanings. Only thing is to make sure you rinse it off good, especially where the decals are.

Just a thought for your decals If you have a local police dept. stop by and ask them who does thers. They can reproduce most anything and the the printers are endless so length is not an issue. I have not seen it done but from what I understand if you have a picture they can make a decal.

Okay, here is the back with the new Sunline decal and the wheel cover with the stitched on logo! I created my own logo using Photoshop and had a local printer print it out for me. It is not perfect, if you get close, it is a little fuzzy, but you probably would not notice unless I told you to look for it first.
She is starting to clear out and clean up nice inside. The only thing really showing wear is the carpet, I am going to do a shampoo tomorrow before posting pictures of the interior.
