Sunline Logos

I'm a new member and have read several posts regarding replacing worn decals, I notice that the shop sells Sunline Owners Club logos. What would it take to expand that to create a sell a Sunline Owners Club decal to replace those worn, peeling manufacturer decals?

There seem to be two issues at work here.

--Whoever still owns the legal rights to the Official "Sunline RV" name would have to issue permission to replicate the actual company logos produced over the years.
--Once that is accomplished, then a manufacturer has to be paid the cost of setting up the individual logo design. Sunline had quite a few variations over the years.

I believe this tends to become a complex, expensive problem, which is why old existing original Sunline stock, when found, tends to be snapped up as quickly as possible.

Frank, I think he means he would like to put the club logo on the coach instead.

The first problem that comes to mind is the logo quality. When I made it, I didn't make it a very large version at all, so quality would be horrible when blown up. This would mean the entire logo would have to be redone in order to print it.

The second problem is I never did get any permissions for using it, after all who could I contact now, but I really would want to avoid trying to create a larger one without the proper permissions. Even though it isn't the exact company logo, it still uses the general design, so I think it would need some permission at least.

The third problem is cost. The costs to producing logos is huge. I looked into this, and I would have pursued it more if it hadn't been for the guy not following through. He was going to do the design work for free for the first one, but it would have been huge had that needed to be done and paid for. I've thought about trying to get the software to make my near perfect files perfect, but then the issue of time comes up...

Is there anybody left at the factory that could give permission? Maybe we could find out who made the decals for Sunline. I just purchased a 2001 Sloaris 2553, and the back decal was pretty much chewed up, so I asked my dealer to take that one off, and damned if he didn't take ALL of them off...now that sucks!

We were just discussing this topic and concluded that it's getting to the point, where most decals are going to need replacing soon. With Sunline out of business, it's pretty much up to us now.

Sounds like there may be an opportunity out there, as long as copyright is not infringed upon. I would tend to think that the Sunline company, if it was not officially dissolved, would welcome the idea that older travel trailers are not sporting dilapidated decals, but fresh ones depicting the brand loyalty by their owners in the form of the club logo.

I may be interested in reproducing the original decals. All I would need is a good photograph and general dimensions of the decals that need to be reproduced (if they are different from what is on my camper). Now reproducing each variation may not be realistic initially, but it would helpful to get an understanding of just how many variations there are; in both size and design. A few questions to help me clarify the need:
  • Would it be best to reproduce as a "set" for a camper or it there one particular decal that is problematic (i.e. front decal)?
  • How many variations are there in both size and design (I see 3 different variations on my 2004 T-1950 and 2 or 3 more on my 1988 T-1550)?
  • Which version has the greatest need/demand?
  • What have people paid for the NOS decals that have come up for sale?
Thanks!

On my 2004 T310SR that has lived all it's life outside and no TLC in the 1st 3 years of it's life. the large Sun on the back died about a year ago and I removed it. The front one I saved last fall with Helicopter tape and it is stable at the moment. The side Solaris seems to be better intact. I think less direct sun.

I have 2 large Suns, (2004 vintage more deep brownish), 2 Solairs, and 1 Slide Room. I think somewhere in 2006 ish the Large Sun went more
orange. I'm sure Sunline Fan knows what year it wnet orange.

I paid $100 delivered for 2 large Suns that I have not yet put on. They originally came from Stoltzfus in PA thru another Sunline member that sold them to me here on the forum when he sold his Sunline.

Great - thanks Jon. That helps give me an idea of what we're dealing with. I've started some preliminary research on producing some of these. If it happens, it's not likely until fall sometime, as I will be camping (in our new Sunline - yahoo) until August; starting next week sometime. I maybe able to start playing with the artwork this summer, but we'll see. I'd love to be able to actually contribute here instead of just asking 10,000 questions!

Good Afternoon
we replace the front Sunline Decal on our 2005 T1950...We bought it from a Dealer in PA....they said that they had about fifty plus of them back in February 2010....We actually found the Dealer in an earlier forum here .....It was the burnt orange, sun...seems to me it cost about $50.00
Good Hunting!

Just got off the phone with Stoltzfus RV (800-752-298. They still have some of the large FRONT logos. They are $50.00 each plus shipping They have NO other type of Sunline decals.

Sunline Decals

We own a 2002 Sunline 2553 and the front decal (on the fiberglass panel) was very bad, so I purchased one from the good people at Stoltzfus. However, I found out that under the original decal is printed a white mask, which allows the decal to firmly adhere to the fiberglass. The new decal must be exactly the same as the original, or it will not match up to the whie mask and will not adhere. I had to return the decal to Stoltzfus with great apology, since they had been so helpful.

Now my rear one is giving up and the side decals are also. I had already replaced the side decals several years ago. The only ones that I'd really like to replace are the front and the back, but I doubt that there are wny around for sale or even to allow for accurate duplication digitally.

Sorry for the long comment!

Hi Tom,

The white mask you saw was actually just the unfaded part of the fiberglass. The entire rock guard would have looked like that when new. If I were you, I would take that fiberglass out, lightly sand it, and then paint it with a special fiberglass/plastic paint, such as the Krylon Fuzion. The paint is designed to adhere to plastics and fiberglass. Get a nice finish on there and then you should be able to stick the logo to it.

Jon

Thanks!!! I'll have to check it out. I really mistook it for a screenprinted mask of whie, for adhesion. Then to the decal......I don't have it any longer, but at least painting it would be a good idea. I can always mask out the graphic which is part of the shield.

Thanks again.

Most of the camper is industry standard items. All of the plumbing, electric, etc. is readily available at any decent RV parts counter or on several internet sites like pplhomes, marksrv, and more. Same for all the appliances. There is very little in your trailer that is unique to Sunlines.

We think Sunline used some custom made fender skirts, and they are very hard to find, if at all. But there are a lot of standard fenders skirts available. Check with the RV parts counter for something similar in size and color.

Decals and logos are pretty much gone. Your best bet is a shop that does truck lettering and vinyl graphics. They can match color pretty well, and if you have a decent pic of a Sunline logo, they can even reproduce it for you in whatever size you need. Might be a bit pricey.

The entire undercarriage (axles, brakes, springs, shackles, etc.) are probably Al-Ko or Dexter. Everything there is readily replaceable. Bearings and seals are the same as used on all kinds of travel trailers, utility trailers, etc. Industry standard stuff available almost anywhere.
