Draining the Hot Water heater completely
Hi everyone...quick question. For those of you who drain their HWH completely, just exactly how are you able to do it. I don't simply mean unscrewing the plug, I want to know about emptying the last 1/2 gallon of junk out of it. I have tried using a rubber tube and my compressor blower nozzle poked into the drain hole with marginal success. I wonder if someone has a real nifty way to take care of this though. Any ideas appreciated.
Bob

Hi Bob
Great to have you back to posting again. Hope all is well.
I have created a compressed air blow out on both of my campers where I can blow from the water pump forward. And I put a hose on the drain of the hot water heat. After gravity drain of the system, this allows me to charge the system with 45 psi air and then open/close the hand valve on the tank drain to blow out the majority of the remaining water. I can burp it and then let the pressure rise again. And before I do this I blow out the system thru the low point drains to get as much out as I can.
Now to the crud, I use a flush pout tool each spring. This stirs up and left over crud from the winter. Mostly white crystals type of stuff from the dried water.
I do drain and blow out the camper after each camping trip. This keeps the stuff in the HW heater to almost not being there.
Here are some pics
Since you have a T2499 here is what I had on that one for the blow out hook up
Here is the drain down
And the flush nozzle
Hope this helps
John

Hi john...long time no see, I've had some downtime, but I'm still kicking and trying to be a camper again.
The compressed air function you reference, could I simply use the common air pressure adapter typical of dry winterizing usage? I'm not sure I can see your adapter in the photos, but I gather your using something you've assmbled from parts instead of the cheapie store bought piece I have right? Also why do you show a length of hose from the relief valve? Just trying to understand this better.
Sure have been many changes here since I last posted...good job with Moderating...Kitty too.
Thank You John!
Bob

Hi Bob
Sorry for taking like forever to get back to you. Been tied up. Good to hear your back at it or trying at least. We see your camper every time we log in.
Yes the standard screw it in the city water inlet will work too. I created a special blow out setup to blow from the pump foward.
The hose on the HW heater, it is to avoid the drips on the electrical components. Once the air cushion inside the HW heater gets consumed there are times the relief valve weeps. If you do this upgrade make sure the fitting is full bore and the hose is as well. You do not want to have any fittings smaller then the pipe size.

Thank You John...never any rush with my inquiries, I understand folks are busy especially this time of the year.
Ok good, I can use the air plug which I already have...the remaining connections are makers which I can deal with.
Appreciate your responce John...as always.
