VIN number location?
Let me start by admitting to my stupidity. I have never owned a travel trailer before this week.
My family and I have been enjoying tent camping but after a few soakings and packing up wet I decided to upgrade to a starter RV. I had an old boat that sold on Saturday and so on Sunday I bought a Sunline T-1750 from an acquaintance. It is fairly rough and had some damage from a leak but the air, gas and plumbing worked fine so for the price I thought it would be a good project over a few weekends and then off to the campground.
Now for the stupidity part. I had no idea my state required a title on travel trailers. I have owned cargo trailers and never need to register them. I have a bill of sale with a description but that is all.
I can get the previous owner to sign a new bill of sale but I can't find a VIN plate.
There is a paper tag on the wall of the wardrobe. It is damaged but there are handwritten numbers but nothing looks like a VIN. This tag had the "T-1750" written on it along with a couple of other numbers. I found a post on this site that said 1988 was the last year the T-1750 was made. I was told it was a 2000 model.
The person I bought it from had purchased it as a project and never tried to tag it.
Can anyone tell me where to look for the VIN? This afternoon I have went from being excited about my new project to sick at my stomach. I'm afraid since I can't find the plate I may have purchased something I can't travel with.....and at worst it might be stolen if the VIN plate has been removed.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Steve

Steve,
Not absolutely sure on this but, as we understand it, the VIN can be located on the A-frame or also by taking the bottom sill off the door. (Someone will confirm or correct this, I'm sure.)
We were where you are about two years ago, a "new-to-us" Sunline and no RV experience at all. Oh for the blessing of the SOC: both Sunline owners and former Sunline owners, answered our questions and gave us the benefit of their expertise. It's a great site!
Welcome to SOC!

Matthew,
Thanks for the quick reply! It was great to see it in my inbox after just posting last night.
I checked the A-frame this morning on the way out to work. There is a plate pop-riveted on the outer right hand side near the propane tank shelf. It has a thick coat of paint and wasn't readable but hopefully I can strip the paint off tonight when I get home from work.
I was glad to find the site last night. Appreciate you!
Steve

SteveH,
Welcome to SOC.
Please post pictures of the inside of your TT and the front, other side and back.
Sunline Fan is the expert, but I'm going to make a couple of guesses simply because I see a couple of things from your photo that doesn't jibe.
1) that is not a 2000 model year. It has square jalousie windows, last used about 1996.
2) The T-1950 is the smallest TT in 2000 I believe.
3) Your unit has been painted to look alot like a 2000 model year, but is off on the strip color and detail.
My take on it so far. More pictures please.
In the meantime, go to the file tab at top of page and then to the brochure and then to the year/s your interested in and download PDF. Loads of helpful info, esp. changes from year to year....even on the same model/s.

From what I can see, 1987 is possibly the last year for the T-1750. Later on Sunline brought out a T-1740.
This data is all from the brochure files archive here at SOC.

It appears T-1750 was made in 1988.
How did you come up with 1983? You have a patio light, I don't think '83 did. You have a blue strip of fabric on the lounge, which may be the only original fabric inside. Blue is '85 and '88 I believe.
Do you have a locking water fill port and/or locking electric shore port? Both is after 1983 I believe.
I'm finding this interesting. Sunline Fan may be able to answer some of this from the vin number. He's the PRO!

bunjin,
My wife found a previous post where Sunline Fan analysed a VIN for someone. I didn't find it on a search just now but I believe the second "D" in my VIN indicates 83.
When I looked at the floor plan in the '83 brochure I downloaded from SOC it matches mine. It looks pretty much the same up through '88 but in '86 it looks like they went to a 4 eye stove and mine has the 3.
I got the model number from the remains of the paper tag in the wardrobe:
Maybe Sunline Fan will weigh in!
Thanks again.

Vicmir,
Thanks! I found it on the A frame under my propane tank shelf where Matthew suggested.

I had to pull the door off to replace it and fix some rot in the sill. The rot had caused the door frame to sag out of square. Apparently the door had come open on the road at some point. It was floppy as a fish. Anyway under the door frame revealed my "true colors".

Same colors and in same order as my '83 T-1550.
The repaint looked like it was very well done.

Getting close to being ready to go for a test run. I didn't have the table so I found a pedestal in a junk camper and cut a piece of cabinet grade "5/8 plywood for a top. I tried to mimic the shape from the original floorplan.
Tonight I put in CO2 and smoke detectors, and a fire extinguisher.
My hot water heater is burning yellow and putting out some smoke/soot. I have given up on it just being the lady bugs cooking so I need to figure that out. I'm hoping a good blowing out and scraping will fix it.

In addition to on the frame you can find it under the trim on the floor right by where you step into the camper. You'll have to unscrew the plate, but thats here we found ours

Hello. I am also a new Sunline owner. I found my VIN tag under propane tank shelf also. I need to get the paint off to read it as well. How do I get the paint off without messing up the numbers?
