trailer brakes on your Que
Howdy! folks:
I'm about to register my newly purchased Que in Connecticut. On the registration form. (Brakes are required if 3000 lbs, or more GWVR) According to Connecticut General Statue 14-262. Que brochure list light weight as 2920 lbs. and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating as 3500 lbs.
I was under the impression if you go smaller you didn't have to have any additional equipment (trailer brakes) on the coach or towing vehicle.
Please!! Advise!!
Thanks! in advance for your assistance!!
Talk @ you soon!! Take Care!! Jay

Jay......
I'm not certain about your state's laws, but I AM certain about the advantages of safe towing.
Trust me....you want to install a good brake controller on your tow vehicle and use the brakes already installed on the Que. One unexpected emergency at an awkward time easily proves their worth.
And one fatal accident can change one's attitudes permanently.

I'll second Frank's message.....you got 'em on there already....use 'em.
As far as registration goes, you'll have to check your state's regs, but I would think you would have to register Gross Vehicle Weight as that would be the maximum weight of the trailer. BTW, your Que's actual weight is over 3000, the battery and LP tank added that 80lbs. to the dry weight.

Hi Jay,
Welcome!
I "third" what Frank said. I had an accident like Frank mentioned, though it wasn't that bad. In my case the controller was a time based one and the trailer was brand new, I'd never pulled anything that heavy before. The vehicle should have stopped it even though the controller was set low, but the traffic stopped faster than I could because some idiot cut in from another lane and almost came to a stop to do so. Such a miniscule amount of $90-$150 is so worth it compared to the damage that can result, not to mention any personal damage. Fortunately, I had none of that and there was also no damage to the trailer itself, just the tow vehicle.
It seems your question answers itself. You say the law requires brakes on trailers with a more than 3000# GVWR. The Que brochure lists the Que as having a 3500# GVWR. It needs to have working brakes.

The brakes on the Que are all electric drum-style. The two types we were talking about above are relating to the electric brake controllers installed in a tow vehicle.
