Installing a side table

I'm going to install a side table next to the arm chair in my 2653. It will fold down against the wall, below the window, when not in use. Its design will be similar to the TV table in the bedroom, only smaller (12" from wall to edge).

Here's a pic of the window and chair. The table will be even with the bottom of the window. (Ignore broom and trash can.)

The two hinge arms will have to be screwed into the wall below the window. I'd like to hit at least one stud in this insallation.
Here's another pic of the window.

Is there a stud on both sides of the window, perchance? How about a header under the window?

Help!

Teach,

Odds are high there is a full length stud (floor to ceiling) on both sides of the window.

A header... well do not be expecting a header like in a house. There is a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 above and below the window for something to screw the window frame into. Do not expect anything more to be there. If it is, your lucky.

Try pressing by hand on the paneling inside and outside on the siding for the full height studs in those areas. I have been able "some times" to find them that way.

Hope this helps

John

Teach,

Actually you "might" be a little lucky. See here, compliments of Kitty and Gary. These pics are priceless when doing this kind of figure it out work.

It appears Sunline added an extra stick of wood near the corners of the lower part of the window to screw the curtain holders too. Yours may have these too.

And the pic's also show it is not a guarantee that there will be a stud on both sides of the window. Some do, some don't.

Teach, You might can learn what is in the wall by removing the fire extinguisher holder and probing the wall through there.

Thanks guys. Unlike the TV shelf, all this will be holding is a book and a cup o' java. I was thinking if I could get at least one screw on each of the brackets into something solid, I'd be OK.
Anyone use plastic anchors in the wall board? Do they hold? I know that stuff is cardboard strong, but there may be "safety in numbers."

This link should direct you to that exact mod I did in our 2653 for our laptop/coffee/you name it! No problems with it at all!! And the computer chair rolls around for tv viewing! Hope this solves your concerns...Janalee P.S..take note of the wire shelving across window!!! We were broken into while in a restaurant-they broke the window, reached in and unlocked the door to gain access!! The wire shelving will at least deter the next would-be thief !!
