Higher mineral content = higher electrical conductivity = higher electrolysis of dissimilar metals.

The anode is designed to sacrifice itself to save the working parts from electrolysis.

Down the road you're probably going to want to replace your bypass line and eliminate the loop. You'll have to be careful that water doesn't stay in the loop when winterizing.
