Winterizing for the first time
Well, I am about to winterize the Sunny for the first time. Let's just hope I do a better job than the previous owner.

Yep mines done been below freezing for all most a month on and off. I'm a pressure guy very little antifreeze. Snow this week and 15 over night Thursday.

Yeh, we had 20 degrees the last 2 nights and supposed to get down to 16F this week. Way too cold this early.

Yeah, I can't believe it's cold this early. I was not (am not) ready.
I am going off the winterization guide in the files section. Installed the pump winterizing kit today. This time around I think I am going to go with the wet method. I have a blow out adapter but somehow misplaced it. Hopefully, I am on the right track. The guide is pretty thorough.

I use a combination method. Blow out with air pressure, bypass the water heater, then pump antifreeze through using the factory installed winterizing kit. By getting the water out first, it really cuts down on the amount of antifreeze used. I can get my 28 footer done with one gallon and have a little left over.

I am so paranoid that I will screw something up blowing out the lines. I need to find the adapter or get another one. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I used wet method dumping the antifreeze into the water tank and pumping through every line..I so opened the over pressure petcock on the water heater and will be going back out to drain the water tank and heater tank shortly to be certain since we froze and broke the heater tank last winter... aluminum tank and I have certified Aluminum welders available...what could have been a very expensive repair was minimal. Just remember, set the regulator on the compressor to no more than 40-50 psi. You need volume, not pressure to move the water out.

I see in your pics you have a a bypass kit on your water heater, did you install that after your break or did it leak?? I was just wondering since that is a big crack!!

That one was there and I just didn't know the previous owner had left water in the tank...
I replaced the plastic version as it was leaking after the freeze up.
Used PEX clamps etc to replumb the whole shooting match... IMG_20180723_164406.jpg

The later factory installed bypasses used a check valve at hot outlet with a two way valve at the inlet. The check valves have been known to hang up and let water in through the outlet. Never had the issue, but that is how my bypass is plumbed.

Mine is failing/weak, but not something I plan to deal with given the location.

You don’t HAVE to blow out the lines. I don’t. As long as the water coming out of each outlet is pink you’ll be fine. I just did mine with about 2 gallons of anti- freeze.

Thanks Johnny. That's what I am hoping. I bought two jugs just in case and I am going to siphon the rest of the water from the WH. Hopefully, that will do it.

In desperate need of some help. I installed the pump winterizing kit but it will not pump antifreeze from the jug. I know that the pump works because I can hear water chirping a little bit from the faucets. I have taken it a loose and reinstalled it and still the same thing. It will not pump from the jug. What could be the issue.?

Pics here help of the winterizing kit and the jug.
This may sound silly but I'll ask, did you flip the winterizing valve to allow the flow to come from the jug?
Assuming the answer is yes and it still will not draw from the jug, try this.
1. Make sure the hose is in the jug all the way down at the bottom of the jug but not so hard against the bottom to close off the hose.
2. Before turning the pump on, open a faucet wide open the furthest from the pump. This allows air in the piping to escape when the pump is trying to prime itself. This way the pump does not have to build a lot of pressure at the very start of priming as the faucet is open creating a vent. Once it primes the jug will suck down fast so then go quickly and shut the faucet off and let the pump build pressure like normal and shut off when it reaches full pressure. Then start the purging at each area (sinks, shower, toilet, outside shower if yours has one. )
Odds are high you may have what we call an "air bound" pump and the pump will not pump the air out fast enough to draw the liquid. These pumps are made to pump water (liquid) very well, but not so much pump air. So letting a down stream faucet be open, the air in the pump can escape quickly allowing what little suction it has draw liquid.

Is this a kit with a valve on it? Can you blow air through the valve with your mouth when disconnected?
I have the kit, but I have never installed the valve, I just unscrew the pump from the water tank and screw the fitting (with pickup tube attached) to the pump each fall. It sucks aggressively from the bottle without priming.

Sorry gentlemen. I was in panic mode so I ended doing what Draughty did and poured the antifreeze into the tank, flip the bypass valve back open and did it that way. I have pink from both sinks and the toilet. I hope that's it. I don't have anything else.
Maybe there's something wrong with the bypass valve. Not sure since this is my first time doing it. I even tried pouring it in a cup and pumping from there so that I could actually see the tubing but still nothing.

I didn't try blowing into the valve bUT I did look into the valve when it was open and closed and it looked okay at least to me.
