Looks great!
Oh yeah! I like that a lot. Looks great. Mine is a slide room so it naturally sits higher. Do you notice a change in trailer handling? Great job!

I know I'm a little late but I just noticed the thread. I did an axle flip in my 2153 last summer. It's great. No more smackin' the ground with my tanks in those uneven camping spots. Hence the handle "RockDodger". I am not sorry I did that one can tell you!

Axle flip
I found some before and after pics. The job added almost 3 inches of ground clearance, and there is no adverse traveling conditions.

Yeah you guys with long trailers kind of need to do that lot of trailer behind the axles it's not so much an issue with my T1700 and I have less trailer in the wind. Some of the new trailers seem to have gone over board it's two steps up just to get in maybe it's an off road camper.

Axle flip?! I never even considered this. Something I want more info on for sure. My 97 24T Saturn sits on the lower side as did our Travelstar hybrid trailer we had previous. That was so low the sewer hose almost ran uphill at every hookup we used. I surely wouldn't mind a few extra inches of clearance especially since most camping we do is boondocking in uneven open lots and fields at racetracks we attend. I'm assuming all you did was put the axles on the opposite sides of the leaf springs? I am a mechanic by trade so I am not intimidated by the progect so long as it's towing characteristics aren't altered.

I had it done to my 2000 T-24. Best thing I did. Stopped scraping when backing into my driveway. Took off single step abd replaced it with a double. Otherwise, that last step was kind of steep.

HI Mike, yes that is all it is. Move the axle tube from and under-slung to being on top of the spring.
Dexter sells a kit for this. It has a new axle seat and new u bolts. They call it an over/under kit. Axle flip while used a lot in talking about this, really is not what it is but most know it by that name. However it got started, good question.
http://dexteraxle.com/over_under_conversion_kits You can buy from Dexter direct or buy on line, dealers etc.
Here is the instructions http://l.b5z.net/i/u/6149609/f/Instr...059-551-00.pdf
If you do this, odds are high you have to re-adjust your WD hitch and may need a new WD shank pending how much adjustment you have now. Need to get towing level again after the lift.
Hope this helps
John

THANKS FOR THE TIPS! I won't get into it this season anymore because we already have a busy summer scheduled for the trailer but a late fall or winter progect for sure. This is a great idea.

When we went from our 92 2470 to our current '07 2499, I thought, oh good, it's a little higher, maybe no more scraping coming out of some sharply pitched driveway. Nope, it still doesn't take much of an uneven road to be scraping something and since I already trashed one stabilizer jack, I'm leery about uneven road surfaces.
My main concern has been trailerability (is that a word?) but every time someone posts here after doing the conversion, they say no change. So, I may be doing ours soon also.

I am about to tackle this progect in the next few weeks before a trip to upstate New York. I was going to wait until winter to do it but once I bring it home from our summer parking spot I will be checking all the brakes and packing bearings and such anyway for the trip so I will just dig into it while it is already being serviced. Can't wait!!

This is something we are going to have to do to our 89' here soon... We have a stone driveway with a pretty good incline when we pull out and I come very close to dragging the rear bumper... I like to consider myself a decent home mechanic, but something that involves removing and reinstalling the axles intimidates the heck out of me... I called a local RV dealer that has a pretty good size service shop and they gave me an estimate $300 for them to do it... I know that if I did it myself it would only cost $50 an axle, but other then that what does everyone think about that price? I thought it was much better then I expected, but I have no comparison...

Price is good. Comparable to what I paid several years ago. You might want to get one of those aluminum adjustable steps (available on Amazon) to compensate for the extra height. Or have the mechanic replace tge single step with double step.

Silly me in my haste to order the kit I didn't take into account that the kit only does one axle. Now I have to order another one lol. Glad I'm not in any hurry.
It's going to be at least 3 weeks yet until the trailer is home and I tackle this but I definitely will keep you all updated.

Had ours flipped two years ago, never regretted it. Let us know how it comes out.
