York, PA RV Show

Anyone going to the York RV Show this weekend? or has anyone been to tell me if it's worthwhile?

I was wondering the same thing. I've never been to it, but we missed the one in Chantilly due to my ankle, so I'd like to get to one. Just to get into some sort of rv thing, even if it's not really camping, it would br RV related.

Wonder if anyone else will reply to your post?

Just got back from the York RV Show. If you have the camping bug it's worth an hours drive Not many huge motor homes. Lots of really long trailers and fifth wheels. A smattering of small stuff, but not as much as you might think with the gas prices going up the way they are. Overall it makes a nice day.

I noticed the exact same thing around here too. More park trailers than I ever remember too. I went specifically looking for the new tan exterior Jayco Skylark and the new Jayco Jay Flight Swift, and saw neither one...

We saw both the Swift and the Skylark. Loved the Skylark with the front kitchen. The rear reminded us all of the Sunline 1950 I'm a sucker for small clever trailers and that one fit the bill except for the super low CCC.
Went in the Swift 154bh expecting the layout of our old Sunline 1660 and was disappointed with the fixed bunks. They make it seem cramped compared to the 1660's lounge with the fold down upper bunk configuration.
Loved the Mobile Suites fiver If we ever became permenant full timers that's what I'd want!
Once again the show confirmed that for now Tweety is the one for us!

Guess I'll just have to have an RV Show in my head Gary had to work today due to a train de-railment yesterday. His locomotive engines were taken to the site of the incident to do the clean up, so there were no engines for his crew to do any work. As I type, he is still not even on his way home from work. Things really got piled up on his route making a LONG day for him today.

Also, my ankle is still quite swollen, now doc is ordering an MRI to look for more damage. So, once again no walking in & out of RVs' at shows.

I do like the front kitchen Skylark too...the front bath model seems to make the whole angled front thing pointless from the inside. The kitchen really embraces that.

I'm not familiar with the 154BH JFSTT because it must have come about after I was around. I saw the conception of the 264BH and 198RD, but they must have made the others later on. The 264BH and 198RD were based some on existing models, so you might find another Jay Flight or maybe a Starcraft Autumn Ridge that has folding bunks.

Well I can report back from the Columbus RV Super show. There where more RV's there this years then last year. Twice as many as last year as they filled 2 buildings.

I came back with a few new ideas on how to build a swinging flat screen TV mount that is very rigid and will work well with our T310SR entertainment center.

Here are some of the findings.

This one is out of a Yellowstone RV Canyon Trail 5th wheel

Cindy really liked the layout of this 5th wheel. I did too. After doing some more digging on this brand there are some things that do not appeal to me in construction. The axles will not take the full weight of the camper, it has a 8" frame on a 13,250# GVWR camper. Sunline beats them again.

I forgot the name of this camper but it had a good flat screen mount. Again a 5th wheel.

And then this one which is almost like ours and the way I was going to make the mount.

And storage in the back

While the ideas where good I was not really impressed with the camper offerings quality wise. I did finally get to go in a Forest River Cardinal 5th wheel. Wanted to see if there top of the line unit actually had an upgrade. Well it was better then any other FR I have seen but still did not hold a candle to a Sunline 5er.

It seems the shows we have here locally does not have the high end quality brands. May have to go to Cleveland for them as I have heard that show take 2 days to see it all.

Also found the salesmen doing the. "You can tow this 5,500# loaded TT with your Trail Blazer" deal to a new unsuspecting shopper. We have a Trailblazer with the 4.3 6 cyl and you have got to be kidding me.

I need to stop going to these shows as I get more depressed each time Sunline is no longer every time I go and not find anything close to what we have now. Good for ideas but that is about it. Maybe I need to find a bigger show.

Our overwhelming feeling on quality was that you had to go up to a fifth wheel to get quality, that there aren't any high end trailers under 32' any more. Jayco's Skylark, and the Viewfinder were both nice but quirky and mod in design. I can't say we saw any traditional trailers that were impressive. The Open Range and the Sandpiper were both pretty nice but they start at 32'. As far as fifth wheels go we liked the Stone Ridge and the Elite Suites Also noticed that there weren't as many brochures laying around to grab. You had to ask for alot of them. Guess everyone's trying to go green!

They stopped putting them out at the shows around here a long time ago. A few smaller dealers do, but that's not many units. I pleasure myself with finding the brochures at each show. The big dealer around here always puts them in the cabinet above the sink, and if for some reason there wasn't one, it would be in one somewhere around there. Another dealer put them in the refrigerator or sometimes the freezer (off though).

And then there's a few dealers that actually use the refrigerators at the show. I walked up to one exterior kitchen and the refrigerator was stocked full...

The Elite Suites is very nice...my parents had it down between that and the Torrey Pine, but the Elite Suites' are very heavy, I think heavier than the TP. They are perfect for a full timer who wants to have a tractor to pull it with.
