Wheel Bearing Replacement

Hello Everyone!
Sorry if this is a repeat, but searched forums and did not find any answers on wheel bearing replacement.

1995 t-2053

I'm new at this and did have never replaced wheel bearings before...but was thinking about de-rusting and painting the frame which would require wheels to come off. Wanted to perform regular maintenance ( not sure how diligent previous owner was) but may need wheel bearings. The install seems easy enough...but how to find the right part? Can anyone recommend anywhere to get them, or what size / style / other description that I would need in order to purchase the right ones? (this is my first TT, not sure if they are one size or come in a variety of styles /sizes).

Also any advice on how to tell if I can just repack vs. totally replace would be appreciated.

When you remove your old bearings there will be numbers stamped on the cup(race) an cone(the part with rollers on it). You can take to any bearing supply or trailer dealer. One you take them off check for rust, pitting or gaulding (scaring). Chances are the just need cleaned and repacked and grease seals(double lipped) replaced.

If the bearings have been packed on a regular basis they probably are good. When you inspect them use a clean rag and wipe the bearings good with the rag if there is ANY flecks of shinny metal on the rag replace the bearing. Most auto parts stores carry replacement bearings for trailers just take the old ones with you. If you have never done replacement bearings the races are a press fit and must be driven out with a punch and need to be driven/pressed back in and properly adjusted. Years ago all wheel bearings were loose bearings on every thing and needed to be serviced.

A little trick to installing bearing races if your not in a hurry is to put the races in the freezer the day before installing. the cold shrinks the metal and they fall right in. When they thaw you have a pressed fit.
