Hi Folks,

Well, I am sure many of you have noticed my lack of posting in the past few months, and now it is time for me to explain.

On June 1, I was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection, and put on a medication called "Levaquin", the very next day I was having "severe" reactions to that med, but the doctors said I needed to finish it in order to get rid of the infection, so I did. The side effects have continued for months.

IF you can avoid this medication, I strongly advise you to do so, it has some serious side effects.
I was able to pull myself together enough to attend the Sunline rally, but I was unable to be myself and enjoy the rally as much as I usually do. I often resorted to riding around in a golf cart.

Once home I continued to not feel well, doing any daily chores were a real struggle.

Finally August 29th, Gary came home from work and I was so sick, and could not breath well at all. I finally agreed to go to the ER, we arrived
around 6pm, finally got seen around 11, and things just went nuts from there, all kinds of testing, IV's for this, that and the other thing, had to have a CAT scan, more tests. Finally, around 5am the doc comes in and says " Well, I have good news and bad news". The good news is we're gonna send you home, the bad news is there are lumps on your liver.

Two days later (I think), we're sitting in an oncologists office to hear what he has to say.

The reason I am having trouble breathing is because my liver is swollen and pushing up into my lungs, therefore limiting my breathing capacity. My liver has dark spots/lumps on it according to the CAT scan, so now I had to have a liver biopsy (NOT a fun thing to have to have done).

Oncologist called and had me go in for another CAT scan last tuesday, this time of my lower abdomen.

Finally saw doc last friday for all the results, lower abdomen is fine, but I have some type of liver cancer.

SO, Gary and I are dealing with the decision of what course of action I want to take. I have lost 38 pounds since June 1st, because almost all food tastes like crap to me or would make me gag so I couldn't eat.

I have not been able to work since September 1st., I haven't driven due to my weakness, and I'm probably driving Gary nuts.

I am not a person that is accustom to depending on people to help me with my basic daily lifestyle, but Gary has been a Saint. I am also very, VERY TIRED of not being able to do anything except basically sit and watch TV. If I could breath better, I think I could do a bit more.

Gary or I will keep everyone updated as we know/decide more.

Sorry this got so long, and I hope no-one minds that I made this post.

Kitty

So sorry to hear that, my prayers and thoughts and best wishes are with you and Gary.

Maybe I should share something I have never mentioned on a forum. I will try to keep it short. At the end of August 2004 my wife who is a school aid developed a severe pain on the first day of school that resulted in a trip to the local hospital ER about 6pm. At 1am a CAT scan showed a shadow on the pancreas which wasn't seen until several days later. Another CAT scan revealed it was a lump on the liver. Needle biopsy ... wait for result ... it was positive for cancer. Her Gastroenterologist recomended Dr. Richard Swanson at Brigham and Womans in Boston who is a surgical oncologist. More tests ... PET scan ... etc. On the day after Thanksgiving in 2004 she had a 3 cm tumor and portion of her liver removed at B&W in Boston.

I give thanks every day that she is still here with me.

Seek the best and ask questions of everyone

Kitty - I am so sorry to hear of your illness and will keep you in my prayers. Find comfort in Gene's wife's happy ending. We will all pray for you to be the next success story.

Kitty, I know your a strong woman, a survivor who can and will overcome this setback. It may drag you down for a while, but the return to good health will be your reward for enduring all this medical stuff.

Now I'm going to add you on to my prayer list..yes I have a prayer list of wonderful people who I put a good word in for every day. You'll see...this will be ok Kitty, food will taste good again, Sunny will become high priority, and some kids will be really happy to have you back on that bus route....be strong, stay positive!

Kitty....

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Gary. Your a strong woman and you can and will overcome this. I know my situation was a little different with the cancer I had, but you have a strong man and lots of Sunline friends and family to stand up with you. That means a lot when you go through rough times. Most important is to never give up and stay strong. David and I are just right over the hill..if you need us for anything. Even just to talk, or help out around the house..etc. We are here and will always be. I am hoping you are going to Winchester? They have gotten me through my ordeal and know they have the best doctors in this area.
Again.. please keep us updated and call us if you need anything!

I just did some resarch on Levaquin and it is not a good drug. The current protocol when a patient reports side effects is to tell the patient to stop taking it. Some known side effects include: Liver damage (hepatotoxicity, [ damage caused by chemicals ] ), loss of appetite, difficulty breathing or swallowing, heart rythm changes, and a much longer list.

Please seek out the best doctors in liver treatment.

We will continue to send prayers for you and Gary.

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis. We're praying that your doctors can remove all traces of the cancer so you'll be feeling better and strong enough to enjoy camping again. Prayers and thoughts are also with Gary and your son during this stressful time.

Kitty, Jim and I are sorry for your troubles and will keep you in our prayers and thoughts. Recommend a consult with some medical experts. New England Medical in Boston and zJohns Hopkins in Virginia

Sorry to hear about the side effects and I hope you feel better soon!

Kitty,
I'm sure you already know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, and that Mandy and I are here for your guys if you need us. Gary and I have been talking about getting together this month to do some camping if you feel up to it. I sent him a message yesterday. Anyway, stay strong, we all know you can kick this. Anybody strong and brave enough to drive a school bus..........well you know.

Love,
Mandy and Lowell

Hi Everyone!

Leo & I had dinner with Kitty & Gary on Monday night and she said she needed to get to the doctor on Wednesday....well "Sunline Family" Dave & MaryAnn (?) came to the rescue and brought Kitty to the doctor. Her pulmologist was not happy with what he saw & heard so Kitty was admitted to the hospital this afternoon...Gary called and asked that I let everyone know what was going on! Sorry I don't have more details other than they will be doing more tests on her!

Keep Kitty in your prayers....more to follow!

Gary,

Please let Kitty know that we are still thinking of her and sending prayers for her return to better health.
