What should I see when I flush?

I moved into my Sunline Saturn T36SS several weeks ago and am working through some issues that others have encountered, so there's some great info available here in the forum. However, one thing that puzzles me, and no one else seems to have asked, is why I'm seeing toilet paper just under the toilet hatch when I flush. Not to gross anyone out but, I even took a plastic knife and tried pushing it away to make it continue on it's journey, but I wasn't sure which way to push it -- toward the back of the toilet (port) or front (starboard). I'm using Scott's Rapid Dissolving TP, which is supposed to be for RVs, and I'm adding Campco RV Toilet Treatment dropins, but even the drop in seems to land just below the hatch. Is this right or is something wrong with my toilet?

I always close my eyes when I flush cause I dont want to look down there. Just kidding. I’m wondering if maybe you have the dreaded poop pyramid going on. That happens when not enough water is used and the tanks aren’t flushed. Basically waste drops straight down and piles up on the bottom of the tank until the pyramid reaches the toilet. I’m guessing it needs a good flush and rinse.

Hahaha, well thanks for adding a new concept and term to my RV lexicon, "poop pyramid". I'll give the flush a try. I'm assuming it'll be OK to use a garden hose down the toilet?

Sure. Just watch out for back spray. I've also used a garden watering wand

Too late on the back spray warning! I got a hose-stick-thing and successfully broke up the pyramid but it took quite a long time. Must've been quite a pyramid. And, there was a bit of back spray. Eeeeeew! Thanks for your help!

The way to avoid the buildup is to leave your black tank drain closed until almost full then drain it and when you flush the toilet use plenty of water.

When I go to flush black tank. if not full I top off untill full with water then dump then I refill to reflush.

The only annoying thing with my 2001 2450 Sunline is the black water tank. It does not have a good slope angle. My friends would dump their tanks in minutes, while I'd have to rinse several times.
Two things I've done. One is to buy a cheap jack, and I leave it under the non-drain side of the tank. On dump day, I jack up the trailer, and it greatly increases outflow. Second, I installed a tank rinser. It's no miracle worker, and I rinse the tank several times when cleaning out. But still little pieces of tissue can be seen flowing out.
At season's end, I rinse it real well with a wand.
I made my own wand. I didn't like how the store bought ones spin. I put a valve on one end of a pvc pipe, and an elbow on the other. That way, I can direct the flow of water where it needs to go.
Tank dumping is an art!

I know what you mean. I have a T2553 and allot of the full hookup sites in the newer campgrounds have dump holes that are higher than my black tank outlet. Doing an axel flip really helped. Madeing my trailer sit 5" higher really helped the dumping situation

HaHa! I've been THINKING about flipping the axles for 20 years! We hope to trade next year, so I think I'll leave to the next guy!

You guys haven't experienced REAL FUN! Wake up at 1-2am, shuffle off to the head (submarine), and unconciously go thru the chains with signs reading "Blowing San Tank, DO NOT USE!" Do your thing, and still foggy brained, go thru the motions of flushing, and getting hit with a tank full (500 gallons max) back flow at 50 psi greater than ambient sea pressure at depth. (45 psi per 100ft approx.)



Yep! You get to clean and sanitize the WHOLE HEAD (effluent on ALL surfaces!). And when you get done, and the Hospital corpsman inspects it, you get a MANDATORY SHOT of Gamma Globulin, and a 3 minute shower. Then the crew adorns you with a toilet seat trophy that you keep until the next poor SOB "blows the San Tanks inboard!"
