What is this for?

On the right side of the trailer exterior, just in front of the forward awning arm is a horizontally mounted channel. It's probably halfway up between the floor and the window. What is its purpose?

It is the rail for the outside BBQ....we use ours all the time but a lot of people don't like to cook under the awning and that close to the siding on the TT.

You can see ours in our sig photo below!

Ah, that makes sense. We have a stainless steel "suitcase" grill that uses a disposable propane bottle. Works well on the "suitcase" folding table. We store both of them in the rear compartment.

John, I really like this idea. I have looked for the rail and found one at Camping World in 16-inch lengths. Is this what I'd need?

Also, your pix show the lower rail mounted just above the wheel well. Did you use the screws/holes for the well trim to mount the rails?

They do sell the alum rail in different lengths. Mine where about ~ 30 inches. I bought mine from a dealer when I asked him if he had the rail to fit the camper. But I know PTHutch bought his on line and actually bought it cheaper then I did....

Using 16" lengths will work too, even if you use 2 together on the back of the table.

On the T2499, the 2004 model, yes I used the exact same screws that held the fender plastic trim on to not put any new holes in the camper. The higher rail was the BBQ rail and the lower rail was on the fender. I did have to special grind fit the heads of the screws so the table rail would work. Ideally you use flat heads but can make most any work.

However this rail was all one length on the fender. Again about 30" long. Due to the mounting holes using a 16" one here "might" require some more creative thinking.

Like you, we too came from the PU world and where use to cooking on the PU stove outside. So when we went to TT, it was natural to still want to cook outside... We had a Coleman Mesa PU and it had a long 3" wide ledge the whole length of the camper that was a great little shelf we put a lot of stuff on. Missing that shelf and the outside stove, sparked this table idea. And then I carried it to again to the T310SR last year.
