What did you do to the Sunline today?

I recruited a friend and we went to a big empty parking lot to practice my trailer towing, turnng, backing up. learned that the installer who put my brake controller in mixed up the wiring because as soon as i connect the tt to the tv it locks the brakes. And i think we mounted the first part of the hitch upside down. Im in the process of uploading photo.

BTW: If your brakes lock up when you hook up the 7-way plug, then either the vehicle or trailer connector is wired wrong. It sounds like the brakes are getting the voltage meant for the battery charge line... If you are handy with a volt/ohm meter, you can check the vehicle connector.. Touch the black probe to the ground terminal and the red to the brake terminal. If you get 12-13.8v there, it's wired wrong. Here's a picture of how the connectors are supposed to be wired....

This pic EMD posted of your hitch is not upside down per say just yet. The hitch head is for sure correct, the hitch shank cannot tell from this 1 pic. The hitch is missing the weight distributing bars which should be on and adjusted to not overload the rear axle of your truck and the truck receiver.

When you get a moment make a post in the towing forum and we can help get into it with you. It may take a few posts to get this sorted out.

Went to look at a Sunline with apackoftwo and her brother today! It needs some minor roof repair work, but it isn't currently leaking and could be used like it is. It is an original owner trailer- the guy's wife died about four years ago and he just doesn't enjoy camping anymore. The inside is in GREAT shape, very clean. The exterior is generally quite nice, even though it's a little dirty right now.

Unfortunately, they walked away from this one. Yes, it needs work, but it has a lot of potential and is very much worth the work. Hopefully it gets another good home! I'd get it myself if I could swing it right now.

I was typing all this fast since dinner was ready and waiting, and I completely forgot to mention a special thanks to JohnB and EMD_Driver who I consulted on the costs of this potential repair job. The Sunny Network is great! Thanks guys!

It looks like a Draw Tite round bar style head, about a 1998+ vintage.

Photo #10 in her album shows the bars attached to the hitch head. The ball for the anti-sway bar has been moved from the left to the right side.

Once I blew the photo up I could see it was a regular round bar hitch. Curt still makes them I just sold one I bought 3 yrs ago

Like Sunline Fan said, it's an older round bar head. Bars poke in from the bottom up. It's a good WD hitch. A lot of them out there like that

We could smell the LP so I made some soapy water, 80% water/20% liquid soap, and started searching for the leak. I found a leak at the top of the old regulator, around the plastic gauge cap. After looking I decided I could not repair it so a new one was in order.

Naturally there were differences between the old and new regulators. Old at the bottom and new at the top of this picture. I replaced the old hoses to the tanks with new, and noticed the width of the new valve is wider than the old valve.

I had to make a new mounting plate and raise the new regulator above the tanks for clearance.

A finished view showing the valve all installed, hoses connected and tested for leaks. Also you can see the security chain that is inserted inside a bicycle tube for protection.

The last view is of the back of the tanks showing the chain padlock. It is wrapped in rubber to stop noise but the tip of the chain is left uncovered to allow noise if anyone rattles my chain.

Last thing is the cover back in place. Held down by a bungie cord.

Nice job Jim. And better routing of the hoses. The original are so short and the bends so tight it puts a lot of stress on the green nut and fittings. I have had leaks at the green nut before and believe this tight hose is part of it.

I bought longer hoses for mine as it has the same too short hoses. Will put on in the weather warms up some.

The old hoses were so hard, dry rotting, that connecting/disconnecting them seemed risky at best. One thing I have noticed about the new green connector is that no matter how tight the connector is tightened the hose still swivels in the fitting. Not sure if that is the way it is to be or not so will double check but both of the new fittings I put on allow the hose to swivel. My opinion is that if the hose is not clamped tight any side pressure on the hose could allow leakage. It also might mean new 0-rings are needed for the tank fittings. :?

edited to add:
I just thought of another problem I had. Since the regulator was raised to allow hoses to clear the tanks that made the main line hose from the regulator to the camper metal header short. My solution, instead of buying a longer hose, was to install a 6" long metal pipe and female by female coupling to extend the regulator outlet opening down to the previous level. Hope I explained that right.

Sorry I didn't start pictures at the beginning of this project but it seems I'm always half way into something before I think of the camera.
