Update on kitty

Well dag-nab-it, was scheduled for my 4th round of chemo today, but it didn't happen. They did my pre-chemo blood work and my platelet count is still too low, so now chemo has been postponed until the 29th of December, but I will have to call to see if it can be changed to the 27th or 28th, as the 29th is a work day for Gary. Plus, Dr. has ordered some more blood work to be done, guess he's looking for causes of the low platelet count, who knows. Dr. also gave me excuse for work that is now good until Feb. 27th :(, so much for getting back to work by Jan 10th, like I was hoping to be able to do. GGGGGGRRRRRRR nasty ole cancer

Congratulations on finding a reasonable cost for the medicine. There is generally a way.
You are a trooper. Keep up the good work. :)

How do they improve the platelet count? Is the low count because of the cancer? Hope the doctor gets his stuff together soon.

Well, went to hospital this am, to see "IF" I could have my chemo treatment. They drew blood, and about 2 hours later come back with "Platelets" are still TOO low. This is the 3rd week in a row that my treatment has had to be cancelled, so I'll go back again Jan. 3rd to see "if" it can be done then. But, on the bright side, since I was not able to have a treatment today, that makes it more promising that we might be able to make it down to Shenandoah River State Park to camp/visit with AWillis and some of their camping friends. SO, should be at least 2 Sunlines camping :) I will start paying attention to the weather to see what this up-coming weekend forecast looks like. Not much fun going camping if I have to hide in Sunny due to the cold, I'd like to be able to be outside for a little while.

Kitty

They keep telling me there is no real way to "up" my platelet count, that the chemo is what is causing it to be low, so I just have to keep being tested until they can start treatments again.

It is VERY VERY foggy here now, and Gary is still not home from work, he left the house at 6:30 this am and since he is operating the train, I have not been able to talk with him, don't know what time he might arrive home.

OH, as of right now I really feel pretty darn good, no where near as weak & wobbly, appetite improved, so something is helping :):):)

I worked 13 1/2 hours today... That equals out to two days of regular pay!

Kitty is doing and feeling MUCH better these days! Kitty had a doctor's appointment last week and we were told that a specific blood test(Which exact one, I don't remember) should have a level between 7 and 9. Cancer will make the number go up and Kitty was at over 900 at one time. As of last week, that level was down to 97! That means that the tumor(s) is/are shrinking! The doctor couldn't explain the great progress she's making. I know for a fact, that what I am giving her is working! She may be "Pilled out" but those pills are helping her get better!

Well, my platelet count was a bit better so I was able to have my chemo treatment. 3 weeks late getting this treatment. I had been getting more tolerable to the cold, but WOW, today was a real shocker. Going out to the car in my usual garb, I pretty much had "instant" severe pain in my gloved hands, my nose and my feet. The pain was intense, felt like my fingers, nose & feet were going to shatter like when you break glass. Start my chemo pills tonight for 2 weeks, then wait a week and go back for round 5

Other than the cold, I am just tired tonight, OH I drove the Jetta to and from the hospital, as my ride got confused and was not available to take me. Of course there were no handicap spaces available, so I had to walk at bit to get in out of the cold.

Gary took the kids & I out to dinner at Texas Steakhouse, we all had a good dinner, and I was able to eat pretty good (but I brought home my BBQ ribs as I was full, full FULL).

And now, 10:21pm, I think I'm going to call it a night, take my meds and get some sleep.

Night All,

Kitty

Kitty - you are one strong woman....you never seem to stop amazing me! Driving yourself to and from a chemo treatment....WOW!!!!! I know people you are confined to bed for a day or two after a treatment!!!!

Keep up the "good work" and keep us posted!

What do the docs say about returning to work???? I go back full time next week...but my job only lasts thru tax season!

Gary....you are one hellava nurse!!!!!:D

Kitty,

When I go to a place that all the handicapped spaces are filled I am amazed at all the other sick people in the world. And I hope their illnesses are just physical instead of mental, like mine. ;)

People I have talked with said they would get really tired but then about the time they were feeling good enough to do something it would be time for another treatment. Some have even worked everyday during treatment. Thank God you are able to rest and take care of yourself while being treated. Rest well! :)

Well, chemo caught up with me today. Not up to doing much as feeling really weak, woozy :) Right now I am slated to return to work Feb 23rd (or 27th), but that is just a tenative date, so we'll see as the time gets closer. Need to get my head working as I need to draw up a set of plans for a friend as he wants to put a peaked, shingled roof over a rental mobile home of his. (I designed his house) as well as the one we built in NJ, ours that we built here in WV (which got sold due to divorce). Not sure how I go into drawing plans, think I started with my own home so I could have "WHAT" I wanted, not what some designer "thought" I wanted.

I go back again on the 24th for my 5th round of chemo, if tests are ok.

It's me :) Had chemo on monday, and WOW it really wiped me out, go back again on Feb 13th for another treatment. So, apparently Gary has gotten my platelets up so I can have my treatments. Today is really the first day that I have felt pretty good. I actually got some house work done, nothing major, just the light duty kinda things.

It's a nice warm but cloudy, breezy day here today, we really have been lucky so far and had a basically mild winter. But, we've had a good bit of rain, so our yard is quite soggy to say the least.

Spring has to be just around the corner, I hope.

When spring really arrives, Sunny will be going on a major diet, I "KNOW" there is way too much unused stuff out there. All I gotta do is get out there and get rid of it. ;-)

Kitty

glad you are feeling better now the treatment is done.....my Mom was asking about you tonight..she & we want you to know we think and prayer often for your speedy recovery!

GARY - keep that girl in line!!!!

It's a long haul, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Was in water aerobics today with a woman who just finished six months of chemo. Like you Kitty she is a fighter. You and Gary deserve a lot of credit. Keep your spirits high. You are doing a great job!

Kitty,

Glad to hear things progressing positive. Your a fighter so hang in there. You will beat this. We too keep the prayers coming towards Gary, you and the family.

Now to the spring cleaning, while cleaning out the camper is always a good thing to do, what may be more therapeutic for you is a camper "mod". Just think of the rush of using tools again! Start slow with the non powered ones... Haven't you thought some up yet?

John,

I know you "will" find this hard to believe, but honestly I don't have any "mods" on my wish list. WOW, did I really just say that :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Well, I am hoping to be able to get the "Sunny Port" installed this spring, but poor Gary will have to find time to do some more "leveling", ya know how level it is around here :-x:-x.

Kitty, you are right, it "is" hard to believe..... I'm shocked

As I sit here typing this and look out the window with the snow blowing...:( my mod list is longer then time to do it. I still have 3/4 of a truck load of "stuff" that came back from "Sunny land" to convert into our galley upgrade. I did get the 3rd Bal jack stabilizers on last year. Works good.

There is still time. So start day dreaming about mod heaven and I'm sure it will come to you...:D

The Sunny port, ah yup. Between the red dirt and the horizontally challenged drive way you have, Gary has his work cut out for him.

Just think, come spring he can be digg'in and you could be saw'in. :)

Our Sunny port, actually Sunny building, is getting closer. Most likely not this year but maybe next year.

So let the day dreams get up and get go'in.

Hi Kitty, my name is Richard and a new member on the forum. Although we have never met or communicated I feel I know you after reading so many of your posts. I just wanted to pass along my wishes for a quick recovery. Seven years ago I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. I had a large tumor in my abdomen. You reminded me of all the little challenges you get when going thru chemo. I just want to let you know that things do get better. The statistics are amazing compared to what they used to be. There are a whole lot of us survivors out there. Keep up the fight and I will be thinking of you.

Richard. Murphy
