I can't remember if I ever mentioned about our towing box before, but we used to have a towing box that held almost all the towing equipment in the 2653. I remember when my Dad and I built it probably in late 1997 or 1998. It was designed to fit just behind the third seat in our Navigator.
I continued to use it through all my Sunny's, and it always had the same Draw Tite 750# round bars in there. I never bothered to put the 1000's in there from the 270, but I never really went anywhere with it.
Now with the 286 and 1200# trunnions, I knew the bars wouldn't fit due to the bar design, so I thought about building a new one. After the trip to Buttonwood and using trash bags, I knew having the box was a must. I decided to modify the old box by removing the round bar inserts and making new trunnion ones.
The box has quite a bit of history. It became a gathering place for bumper stickers of places we've been. This way they didn't have to go on the coach and they would last almost forever.
Here's some pics of the completed box with the bars in it. I cleaned all the grease off while working with them, but I didn't put it back on for the pics:
