Tire pressure

I looked up your year 2000 T-280SR, and Sunline rated the camper at a 10,000# GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating).

They would have installed ST trailer tires by the size of ST-225/75R15 Load range D. Check what is on your camper, a prior owner may have changed the Load range to an E load range, which would be a higher load capacity tire and an acceptable upgrade.

In that size tire, this is the pressure you should tow at:

Load range D = 65 psi
Load range E = 80 psi

You can look at the tire's sidewall, and it will list the max load capacity at the maximum cold tire pressure. In this application, you want trailer tires at the max cold tire pressure and measured before you start to tow for the day, as the tires heat up and the tire pressure rises normally.

If a prior owner installed load range C, as it is made in the ST-225/75R15 size, that is a problem, and we need to discuss it.

Look at the tire sidewall and see what size you have and what the load range is. If you post the size, brand, and type of tire, we can confirm that the tires are the correct size. Also, look at all four tires to ensure they are the same size and load range. Yes, I have seen used campers with tires that are not in the same load range, which is not good.

I know you are new to all this, so we will ask you to look at another item on the tire sidewall on all four tires: the four-digit date code. They only put this date code on one side of the tire, so if you cannot find it, then it may be on the inside.

This link to Good Year tires talks about how to find the four digit date code. The code will tell you the week of the year (1st two digits) and year (last two digits. https://www.goodyear.com/en_US/learn/tire-basics/tire-date-code.html

At this point, you do not know how old the trailer tires are; on trailers, they age out most of the time before they wear out. You cannot go by tread life on a trailer tire to indicate when they need to be changed. Buying a used camper can give you newer tires with good life left, (5 years old or less), worse, some very old tires, some have been 15-plus-year-old tires, which have happened, and is a real problem if you plan on towing the camper. The spare tire may be the original from Sunline, should check the spare too.

Hope this helps.

John,

We replaced all the tires yesterday with brand new ones. I just wanted to check thank you very much

What is the recommended tire pressure for a sunline t280sr

You should have a Certification label that tells you the Max GAWR, Tire Type (P or LT or ST), tire size and Load Range letter. Also the PSI needed to support the GAWR. This information is required on all RVs with the GAWR and tire info adjusted for each specific RV.
