The Secret Is Out...

Well, Maker's Mark discovered my secret: My Sunline room. The room is modeled off of a '97 Sunline, so anyone who has owned a '96-'98 Sunline should recognize this striping and striping patterns. The only thing it doesn't have is the side suns, top & bottom striping (near ceiling and floor), and the little pin stripe in the middle tan stripe. I thought all of you would like to see some pics, so here they are:

The hole in the striping you see is for taillights, which are still at General RV .

The license plate is from the 2653 (with original mounting screws), also waiting for the taillights so it can be mounted on the light.

The curve in the striping is actually harder to paint than you may think!

Like the shine? It's semi-gloss to represent Krystal Kote.

I know the logo is incorrect to match the striping, but I'm very proud of this '76-'77 logo, a gift from Carl Kern.

Custom made window valance with small Sunline Solaris logos ironed onto the fabric.

Fortunatly, I don't need to level out the room too much .

Custom table made from two trailer wheels (both from 2653 at one time) and an old roof refer vent cover.

I even have a door stop!

You're to much, HEHE What a job, fantastic !! Though, I was wondering, where is the "model" of a Sunline hitched to a vehicle? I'm sure your probably working on that. I hope you room is "level" enuff to live with, Keep us posted when you add "stuff" to your room. I think you need an A/C unit on the ceiling I picked up a toy trailblazer towing a travel trailer, so I'l be working/tinkering with getting Sunline logos on it. Also, I still have the wooden Sunline one to make. I am hoping to put "doll house" lights in the wooden one that I make When you going to put a Sunline license plate frame around your tag, and where is your awning? Geesh, it's easy to help someone have more projects to do. When I think of more for you to do, I let you know,

Thanks for the ideas! I was actually hoping to get that late '80's Seville model at the Sunline auction (the one that was always by the parts/cust. service desk), but since I didn't go, that was a little hard to accomplish. I actually thought about finding a little awning sample (like dealers/Camping World has in the showroom) or a window awning, but I think that would push my mom over the edge. As it is, she had no idea about the door until my dad brought it home, so she had to live with it.

I did already think about a small roof vent in the ceiling, but I immediatly got a foot down on that one. Before I redid things in December, I had a side refer panel, RVIA tag, '94 spice rack, various logos, and plenty of other Sunline parts on the walls, but after filling over 500 holes this winter, I've been told I have to keep them to a minimum now. The '76-'77 logo is not held up with any nails, it's just sitting on a ton of stick on hooks. I don't want it to fall!

As for the plate frame, I'm going to hold off. I collect license plates (hence the 500+ holes), so a frame like that, well any frame for that matter, would leave a mark on the face of the plate.

Did you see that wooden model of a 1950 that someone made on the Sunline website? The pic is gone now, but I remember someone did make one.

You've really got it bad. I showed your pictures to my wife; she told me not to be gettiing any remodeling ideas from you. What ever gave you the idea to use coach door for your room? That's gotta be a first.

Wow Jon,
Can't wait to see it with the tail lights. You could run low voltage around the room and put a couple of yellow clearance lights above the striping. A couple of lp bottles could fuel a gas lantern. The Amish in Lancaster have many attractive gas power lights in their homes. The options are endless.

I've got a couple of old style (from the '94's) taillights that I actually had up on the wall with a few red clearance lights and could light up. For a while, I ran them with a train transformer and they turned on every time I turned on the switch. That was all that turned on with the switch. I also had a wooden "trailer tongue" that I made, with a coupler, A-frame jack, and LP bottle cover, but I took it out because it took up too much room.

Hey Jon, that room looks a lot like the one Cindy and I live in, only ours has wheels!!! Ha! Ha! I cant believe it took this long for everyone else to realize how bad you got the Sunline bug.

When I heard you had the Trailer Door for your bedroom door, I knew it was the worst case I had ever heard of, and that was months ago.

All you need now is one of those 65" Plasma's hung on the back with a scrooling slide show of fantastic views and it'll be like your living the dream.

Great Room, I want to see more pictures of the door.

How did you frame it into a standard sized/width wall? And who was the carpentar who blended the drywall with the curves on the top? DO you have the screen still attached and the center slide?

Hi Pat,

The door is actually a special width that fits a normal door opening. I think these doors might be used for handicapped units, but I'm not sure. My dad was the one who installed it the first time (He likes woodworking). On the outside, he took off the existing moldings and the door slid into place over the rest of the trim. The door is held in with a couple screws every so often, right into the side of that trim wood. The screws are now covered with a screw cover material, so that's why the pics don't show the screws. Believe it or not, the piece above the door is just a piece of that bubbled plastic used on the outside of the door (smooth side out) and extra wallpaper was glued to that. He framed the entire door opening with a different, smaller molding so it would cover over all the bare spots.

I do have the screen door still attached. I don't use it a lot, but it is nice to keep that closed and have the window open, while blocking the dog from stealing something. The slider on there is one from my 2363, because it has the "Phillips" logo on there, and not the other brand one that came with the door. The screen and door are distinctly different from the ones actually used on Sunline's, especially when it comes to the slider sliding. The slider has room to move up and down and sticks a lot, so the slider usually gets twisted and doesn't move easily. The screen door originally came with the new style lever latch, but as you can see from the pics, I changed that to the bullet latch. Also, you'll notice the electrical tape on the black panels of the screen door. That is to prevent the panels from rattling, though it doesn't look that great.

I'm aware the velcro is on the outside . The velcro that came on the cover didn't hold, so I just put more on the other side.

This is another piece of bubbled plastic covering the inside.

I came across a pair of those take off's from the 2363, so I think I may put them up there in the meantime until I can get the ones I like. I held up the right light in the spot and it fit better than I thought. I know these lights are larger than the others, but I thought it would be large enough where it wouldn't fit in the space.

Those lights go well; the rounded edges fit against the 45 degree trim edge of the stripping. Still think we missed an opportunity not buying all the doors available at the auction.

Nice job on the room! I've seen dozens of hunting rooms, beach rooms, country theme rooms but never a camper room. Definately has to be one of the most simple but original ideas for a room I've ever seen, especially with the camper door! While I grew up with Coleman and Fleetwood in my family, I can't say I've ever heard of anyone modeling a room after something in the Fleetwood line!

It looks very relaxing, especially with the trees outside; thanks for sharing!

Actually, the tree's aren't that close. It is a nice view, but the trees are probably 50 ft. away from the window. The one disadvantage to having semi-gloss white walls is the sun in the morning! It comes in around the shade and lights up the whole room, like someone turned lights on. I sort of wish the trees were closer, but there's a deck in the way . Just out the window to the left is a cherry tree, which is beautiful in the spring when it blooms. Not so beautiful for my allergies though . I caught a squirrel out there this evening trying to eat my cherries, so he probably has told all his friends and I won't get any come time to pick. Interesting story behind it though: It was planted shortly after I was born (gift from grandparents) and look at it, it's taller than the house! I'm glad I didn't grow that tall!

P.S. My parents have had two Fleetwoods (Tioga & Revolution), neither of which I considered modeling the room after! Not to mention the paint scheme on the Revolution would be near impossible to recreate.

Well, I finally got the taillights up. The more I thought about it, I didn't want to put those take-offs up because they were bigger and I didn't want any exposed holes should I want to put the correct ones up sometime. Long story short, but I got $50 from my mom to go to General RV to get to get a new tongue jack for our utility trailer, which bent coming down the driveway behind the MH about five years ago. It wasn't bad, but my grandpa cut the bent part off (about 1"). Then, the handle fell off on the road one time, so the jack was almost useless. The new jacks were about $45, but when I got there, they had a few take-off jacks from people who got power jacks. They were almost brand new, still full of grease, pretty much scrape free (unlike the new ones), and most of all, only $20! So, I just used the leftover $30 to buy the taillights, and came home with a jack that looked better than the new ones and change to spare!

They are not wired up at this point, but maybe they will be sometime in the future. I didn't want to get into that this morning. I think I need to look for a new lamp, too, since it blocks the left light. Here's some pics of the finished job:
